 Weekend Estimates
Shang-Chi - 71.4m
Excellent #. If it was on PA it may have done original projections.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Ridiculous low Sunday and Monday estimate from Disney - should be a couple millions higher than their $83.5m Labor Day weekend estimate...

 Re: Weekend Estimates
...and a quick reminder:
$30.6m = biggest Labor Day weekend opening (2007's HALLOWEEN) $41.1m = biggest inflation adjusted Labor Day weekend opening (2007's HALLOWEEN) $53.3m = biggest inflation adjusted Labor Day weekend (5th weekend of 1999's THE SIXTH SENSE)

 Re: Weekend Estimates
From BOG:
#ShangChi shattered the all-time #LaborDay opening wknd record debuting to $71.4M FRI-SUN powered by red hot buzz, no streaming option & #Marvel brand. That beats combined $63.9M of Top 10 movies this same holiday wknd in 2019. We're seeing pre-pandemic #boxoffice numbers here!
Other drops: Candy Man $10.5 M -52.3% Free Guy $8.7 M -34.1% Jungle Cruise $3.9 M -22.0% Paw Patrol $3.8 M -42.9%

Its already 3.5 million higher than the initial 3 day projections. Remember, studios do not factor in any changes. They were just sticking with Black Widow as a model so far.

Disney could also want to keep pushing Disney+'s relevance as well as limit the fallout to the ScarJo argument of box office impact on Marvel films of the dual release. It's actually in their favor to have lower estimates initially get most of the press even if its 4day ends up much higher.

I’m sure Disney is more worried about other actors/ crew with options to return. The Russo brothers are definitely in Scarjo’s corner, and their rumored secret wars is probably the most important film box office wise and story wise to merge fox, mcu, Sony.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
$70M! Excellent! Hard to say how legs will be in pandemic era, but they have been strong for most of all the August releases (except for poor SS.) Even Don't Breathe 2 is having a nice little run. The SC > BB3L club actually looks pretty good right now.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Really is a shame Venom moved. Definitely could’ve cleared 60m. Against Halloween 50m looks to be as good as it could do.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
So it crossed $70m mark and made more than F9. Should have done way better if it was in summer and pre-pandemic.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Aside from Disney, you know who is probably thrilled by this opening weekend? Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. A lot can happen in a month, but they have to be exhaling right now.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
So Disney underestimated Sunday by about $4m... 4 day weekend heading towards $90m+, beating BLACK WIDOW's first four days ($87.5m)

 Re: Weekend Estimates
That's very impressive. There will be repeat viewings of these like BP and I think this could make a play for $250 m+ given the lack of competition and watercooler effect of this one.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Thank god this didn't go to PA. If it did I think 4-day would've been original projections, $50-60m 4-day and probably would've grossed less than $150m.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
SHANG-CHI’s opening day was 25% lower than BLACK WIDOW’s. Their Saturdays were even and SHANG-CHI’s Sunday looks to be around 24% higher. PA kills repeat ticket sales. SHANG-CHI will absolutely outgross BLACK WIDOW overall.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
It’s now a $90m 4-day for Shang Chi. Pretty amazing.
