Looks like MINIONS 2 has a chance to beat MINIONS 1's 17 day total ($262.45m)...

The numbers is saying Minions as number 2, implying WTCS didn't beat it on Friday.

With that second weekend drop, I'm starting to wonder...can it also beat Thor? Now that would be a wild upset.

Very solid start for Crawdads. The preview ratio indicates it's gonna be hella frontloaded, but for a movie with no stars and bad reviews it's good. Should make a decent profit for Sony.

That's really disappointing for Crawdads. But apparently 30% of people polled saw it because they were fans of the book. So hopefully there's plenty more people who read the book and do want to see it that haven't yet. Plus movies aimed at women seem to have really good weekdays in the summer. So maybe it can leg out.

I just don’t see Disney having a stellar year for a while now with Marcel starting to see signs of age.

Horrible for Thor, the superohero fatigue is here to stay.
I think BP2 might be disney's last Marvel film that will do 400m+ for a good while.

They need to retire all the OGs and start the clock until enough time has passed for The Force Awakens nostalgia bump.

Movie need to diversify beyond the Disney mold which is frankly getting old and I feel will soon be a relic of those nostalgic for the 2010s

When all is said and done it will out-gross Ragnarok, and that's without China and Russia. That doesn't seem like a crumbling empire to me. It's already at $712 million after ten days. Ragnarok made $853 million in its entire run.

Mojo says $712 million. They may be wrong but that's where I get my worldwide numbers from.

I checked elsewhere and it seems Mojo is wrong. They're using the worldwide figure as their overseas figure, then adding the domestic tally on top.

I thought Paws of Fury would jump a lot more on Saturday. Its $6.25 million opening looks pathetic.

Crawdads on the other hand did well, though I'm skeptical on $17 million. I think it might drop a couple hundred thousand with actuals.

Top Gun: Maverick

#8 second weekend of all time ($90.0M)
#10 third weekend of all time ($51.8M)
#2 fourth weekend of all time ($44.6M), behind only Avatar.
#3 fifth weekend of all time ($29.6M), behind only Avatar, and Titanic.
#2 sixth weekend of all time ($25.5M), behind only Avatar
#4 seventh weekend of all time ($15.5M), behind only Avatar, Titanic, and Home Alone.

Now it has the #7 eighth weekend of all time, behind only: Titanic ($23.0M), Avatar ($22.8M), Aladdin [1993] ($15.6M), Chicago ($12.7M), Home Alone ($12.6M), La La Land ($12.2M)

Frozen, Gran Torino, and American Sniper not on this list since I’m only counting from the week these films went wide.

If you're removing American Sniper, you could also remove Gran Torino for the same reasons. Its opening weekend it played in 6 theatres. Its true seventh weekend wide, it made $3.6 million.

I don't know... I know it's being seen as beating expectations going into the weekend, and it's not bad or anything, but given how many copies the book has sold (and its longevity over the years on the charts), it probably(?) should have done more. Very low admissions to book sales ratio here (1 in 10). However, the marketing seemed quite subdued. I don't know if Sony decided to spend little on the marketing, expecting the fans to turn out regardless, but I saw almost nothing for it. Feels sort of botched.

And Lightyear... one of the most embarrassing performances in recent memory, I think. Has yet to drop less than 50% and is already down to 1,350 theaters (70% of theaters have dropped it now) in its fifth week...

I wouldn't confuse a 'sale of the book' as a 'fan of the book'. It's also not a book that has transcended its fan base. I hadn't heard of it until the movie was dated. It felt niche, despite what Best-Seller Lists might say. So I feel $17 million is more than decent for it - I expected $12 million.
