$2.05m NEW MUTANTS (-33 %)
$1.50m UNHINGED (-17 %)

Pretty good holds (especially after Labor Day), but on a lousy level...

Unhinged is already at 3.44 multiplier. Tbh under regular circumstances I feel like it would've not passed 30m so I guess. Very curious about Tenet #s...

According to recent reports, that $20M “OW” for Tenet was more than just the four day weekend, which was closer to $12M. I don’t see how Bond or WW release this year. Even if Bond films make most of its money overseas.

Yeah, Tenet not being past 30m in weekend 2 is pretty bad. At least the drop is nice... if theaters stay open this will play for awhile so we shall see

These movies do need to stabilize some more to encourage the release of more films. I think it's agreed upon that opening weekends aren't going to be any good for some time, but if a film can stabilize in week two or three and go on to post similar numbers from that point for the next several weeks, it gives them reason to release them. But 20/30% drops each week, while good under normal conditions, isn't going to cut it.

Problem is that the U.S. market is holding hostage the much healthier international markets... A U.S. delay is also an international delay...

I actually think this is not so bad for Tenet over the long run. WB wanted to manage expectations but drive ins just opened in LA this weekend and having the film already at a 3.0 multiplier is pretty good. The $20 M OW never existed but played like that in the news. OW was bad but the hold is good.

The big takeaway here seems that the Canadian box office is a lot stronger than expected. I'd estimate it may already be 20-25% of Tenet's gross and overinflated the $20M figure.

I'm really impressed by how well this is doing internationally. The first already did very impressive and the second is besting it in most territories. After two weekends it's at 21 Million with many territories yet to open.

Due to extremely slow business, my local theater that reopened 3 weeks ago is now closed Mon, Wed, and Thursdays. Fear of the virus, lack of money, getting accustomed to home entertainment, and a lack of mainstream movies combined to do this. WW and BW are the only movies still in this year that can fix the latter, maybe Bond. Only time can fix the first 2. People getting used to not going to the theater might not get fixed. It's sad to see this box office struggle like this.

I agree with Corpse these ~30% drops while good are not great given that we have fewer movies playing in theaters now. These movies need better holds and apparently bigger weekdays as well. That said this is a decent hold for Tenet but it needs sub-20% or even sub-15% drops from here on to make good money.

Indeed these numbers are really impressive. Never imagined that after the first movie this franchise will gain new audience but I guess releasing over a pandemic with not many big/known properties is helping this one out.

I hope not! Studios need to embrace the situation and change their strategy. Movies used to get an earlier OS release before the pandemic but that was just few weeks/days in advance, now there is a high possibility that they won't get released domestically for months. I hope the studios become smart and release movies in OS markets earlier. The end goal is to make money and some of the opened OS markets are almost back to full business.

If it really is off only ~30% then it is fine number. $100M was too much to ask.

Bad Boys For Life also locks up the 2020 win if it hadn’t already. Grats!

Yeah I would have expected the sequel to decrease. Even without really any help from the US it should have a higher global cume than the original. Also this sequel has an "R" rating unlike the first movie's PG-13 so it's even more impressive it's not losing any of its young adult audience.

Maybe the target audience for AWC are intrigued by the R rating, expecting more steamy scenes from this entry ;)

Oh I'm sure they are. The first should have been an "R" movie in the first place. It's just a matter of the target audience being able to buy tickets. But I guess they're managing just fine. Maybe they're going with their moms :P.

They should have just given this a traditional wide theatrical release here in the US. Theaters need something to show. Definitely curious how many theaters it does make it into. Could very well still be in 1,000 like Bill & Ted was.

I would be surprised if theaters are turning people away right now for age restrictions too. I’m sure as long as they look like they are in high school and there isn’t a max occupancy, you’re seeing whatever you want

That would make sense.

Most likely correct, but it's not impossible for Black Widow to top it, if it keeps the early November release date. Never underestimate Marvel.

$200m in this atmosphere seems a bit excessive.

Jim Carrey will have his first top 3 movies of the year performance with Sonic since The Grinch.

Smith will have his best performance back to back of his films ranking wise with Aladdin/Bad Boys combo since ID4/MIB.

Guess it's fitting that 2020's top films feel like going back in time...
