Looks like Pixar’s take on what could have been a Dreamworks Animation project.

Saw hints of Monsters Inc.

I was meh on Coco but I loved it. Definitely giving this a chance.

I like the set up, it feels more classic Pixar than a lot of their recent films sans Inside Out. I'll take this a million times over the latest Illumination Entertainment garbage.

That sums up a million animated films. There’s a million ways to take the quest plot line which is why it’s so popular.

Even their original movies are now becoming lame. Pixar used to be good. I'm glad they've kicked open the door for other studios to take over.

Coco, Good Dinosaur, Inside Out. Their last 3 originals. 2/3 have been brilliant, while the other was just very average but gorgeous.

It looks so generic.

The design is a mix between Dreamworks and one of those animation houses that the likes of STX or Paramount etc use. Don't see much difference between this and Wonder Park and those of its ilk.

So this is at 81% on RT with a 7.4 avg. rating. 47 reviews. Basically it's their worst reviewed movie outside of the Cars movies, Brave and the Good Dinosaur.

I think it's gonna open around 45m, and gross around 170ish million if it's lucky. Should be a huge disappointment.

The reviews are definitely not pointing to another Pixar classic but the market is empty and even with Sonic I feel there is a good appetite left for a good family movie. I can see this opening really well

This looks really bizarre, a rare no interest Pixar offering for me. Won't be surprised if it flops.

Yeah, when I saw the trailer I thought they should've kept the part about the dad being resurrected from the waist down a secret, it's kind of disturbing.

I mean, it was obvious from when this was announced this was going to be another Good Dinosaur/Inside Out situation with Soul. But this has the starpower that should be enough to make this a hit.

Yeah this never looked like it was going to be a big breakout based on all the trailers, but hopefully it does well because I actually think it looks pretty good. I guess it's going to have a really subdued opening though, but legs could be great, especially if WOM ends up being strong for it.

^How? I'm sure most of its audience will compare it to rest of Pixar movies and after those reviews it doesn't look like the WoM will be better than their recent big originals like Inside out or Coco.

Yeah you could be right. I was just trying to be optimistic here, but I didn't know reviews for this were only in the low 80's which isn't bad, but for a Pixar film it's not that great either.

It looks and sounds like a Dreamworks movie, with Dreamworks level reviews to go along with it. Good but not great. Add in the lack of initial buzz before reviews came out, and you have Pixar's third lowest grosser.

You know Disney doesnt have much faith in one of the films when they release two Pixar films in the same year. I just wonder if Soul is going to be any better (I have my reservations).

The kids want to see this so I'll guess we'll give it a go.

Should be interesting to see what Christian response there might be (if such can be measured). I know my son won't be seeing it - the whole resurrecting a loved one won't fly with me. Reeks of witchcraft, sorcery, and demonic influence.

Interesting - I saw glimpses of the trailer but had no idea what the story was about. Thanks - I’ll look further into it as that’s a red alert.

The trailer clearly outlines magic and sorcery but I don't think any of that is offensive or red alert for kids.
