Fff I wonder what all the big chains are gonna do as Regal and AMC said they'd open mid July. I know some theaters are showing old movies now, idk if they'll be able to do that for months though. With US cases peaking again...

A strange rumor circulated around that the new Tenet release date is September 11, replacing the Conjuring 3 which will be postponed to June 4 next year (currently booked as an untitled New Line horror film)

‘Tenet’ Faces a New Challenge: China Says Its Runtime Is Too Long to Play
Christopher Nolan's film clocks in at two-and-a-half hours; to prevent virus transmission in theaters, China said all films must be two hours or less.

Solution: Divide into part 1 and 2?

Nolan has anyways refused to release the film internationally before domestic market so I don't think it's releasing anytime soon. Personally I think it's moronic decision on his end/WB and/or marketing stunt because you don't get anything out of being American in this instance. In the end it's their decision but I almost feel boycotting Nolan because of this.

Post Re: Tenet predictions
America is still his biggest market and if he releases it in China first then it will be spoiled and pirated to death while we wait for theaters to reopen. I think Nolan is fine with it being pushed into 2021 and WB should be too since they won’t have much else to show next year.

The runtime thing is an interesting quirk though. If he can’t release it in theaters at two and a half hours for the next twoish years then maybe he will cave on the vod option.

Nolan would not cave for VOD for sure. I'm sure they'll chop the movie to two hours for China instead.

Also the piracy justification works only as an argument. I really don't think people who wanted to watch this in theaters will opt to watch a crappy pirated version instead. One more thing China is the only market that's open where Piracy is Huge and it looks like there is a way out of not releasing there immediately .

It does look like it would take two and a half hours just to explain the plot so I'm not surprised about the length.

So, I think WB has three options, switch it with Wonder woman and push that December and then Dune to next year, move it to December and push Dune out, or next summer.

Tenet aims for August 26-28 in Europe, even earlier in Asia.

I expect rampant piracy.

Help me out with the math here:

Let’s say Tenet sells for $29 USD on VOD and we see 20 million households purchase the film. That’s $580m USD. If it’s 40 million households then we’re talking $1.16bn. Warner Bros will get just a percentage but it still seems like a good deal given today’s environment.

After being removed last week from schedule Tenet has been added back for 13-August here. Mulan has been removed from the schedule with New Mutants taking its place on 27-Aug

New Mutants not going digital really is idiotic. I highly doubt it'll do over $250m WW.

If it does well overseas enough then maybe it'll be worth it though.

1 minute for every movie that the cinema doesn't know the actual length yet (though we knew from Korean board)

10,000+

(My prediction for # of WW deaths that will ultimately be directly traced back to Christopher Nolan's hubris - - gouged forever in pandemic infamy.)

And my country will contribute exactly zero to that number since we have zero domestic case in the past two months, so I'll enjoy the movie to the fullest ;) Good luck for any other countries.

CEO Rich Gelfond said Tuesday during a conference call with Wall Street analysts. “Their reaction was, ‘Oh my God – I forgot how great it was to be in a movie.’ Tenet is just a beautifully filmed, beautifully made, wonderful movie. … It wasn’t just one person, at one age. It was a number of Imax employees who spontaneously said that to me.”

Tenet approved for China release, at least this won't be a bomb worldwide.

Also Happy Birthday Christopher Nolan!
