Re: November 9-11 Predictions
Grinch is definitely opening too early. I’d give it $300M if it had Mortal Engines date.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
The Grinch's release date is just wrong. Should have swapped places with Wreck It Ralph 2.
That said - it feels like it will have a softer than expected OW but strong legs over the next two months (reminds me of Polar Express).

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
The Grinch should be good for $64 million. Marketing has been decent. Is it too early? Perhaps a tad, but all stores have changed their seasonal area to Christmas already, so it won't be a surprise to people that a Christmas movie is in release.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
Hallmark Channel started their all day every day Christmas movies like a week before Halloween. I think people will still go see a Christmas movie and this way it plays for much longer. If it opened over Thanksgiving it would only have a month.

The Jim Carrey one is dumb. I'd rather see the new one.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
$45m for The Grinch.
It's a bit too early, and the Jim Carey version is too recent and still gets lots of Christmas play.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
Too early? lol. The Carrey one was 18 years ago. A whole new generation has been born that this new film will appeal to, plus it's animated which differentiates it anyway.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
It is from the producer of Sing. Big deal. And it's from Illumination, but the main roles are not "from the people who made Minions and Sing".
Also, Sing and Minions made $270m and $336m. Here's hoping The Grinch follows suit.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
It should get to at least Sing numbers. It should get a second wind in December so it should make it.
Never seen the Carrey version and never felt compelled to. This one I wouldn't mind seeing.

You need to let kids make up their own mind, and you need to let people see crap so they can appreciate the gems.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
Trailer views are far weaker than Sing, Pets, minions and Despicable Me 3. Not gonna perform anywhere close to those.

When it comes to printing money I'm done underestimating Illumination Entertainment's films.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
HSX believes The Grinch will flirt with a $70m OW. I just don't see it. Even if it was opening a bit later, I'd be favoring a leggy run instead of a strong bow.

Anything over 50m is fine for this. I wouldn't underestimate it though. Smallfoot dropped only 19% this weekend because Nutcracker didn't connect and there's nothing else for kids.

Re: November 9-11 Predictions
Just how badly will Girl in the Spider's Web flop? I see no buzz whatsoever. I see more for Creed II, which is 2 weeks away, than for GitSW which is 2 days away. Hopefully it goes sub-$10m.
