Re: Aladdin predictions
Nobody cares about Zane Malik, needed to release the version from the trailer. Disney really fucking this one up

http://www.darkhorizons.com/first-godzi ... ns-online/Good reactions for both Aladdin and Godzilla. Early reviews tend to lean positive though

Re: Aladdin predictions
The entertainment industry in general is the pits this year. Across music, film and TV, big guns like Game of Thrones, Taylor Swift, and Pokemon, are all giving us ham fisted half baked messes.

Re: Aladdin predictions
On paper 2019 was supposed to be mega (at least in film and TV). More of a fizzer at the moment (Endgame aside). Hopefully the GOT finale can redeem some form of respectability (but damage done). And let's also hope the likes of Tarantino and Scorsese don't let us down.

Re: Aladdin predictions
The issue is, with all long-term entertainment successes, they eventually become the victim of their own success; past glory leads to unreasonable expectations that inevitably lead to disappointment. 2007 was full of this. This same concept opens the market for new, low expectation players to come in and surpass expectations and over perform.
Our own expectations occasionally need reinvention, will be interesting to see where this takes us

Re: Aladdin predictions
I usually keep my expectations low about these big franchise movies. I don't expect them to be crafted out of completely fresh ideas. For these remakes, a few minor surprises here and there will satisfy me. For superhero sequels, I don't have high hope of seeing a sophisticated movie with distinctive writing.

Re: Aladdin predictions
Mary Poppins and Dumbo are old IPs. Nostalgia dies with people (or people who are too old to care). The animated Aladdin was made in the 90's. Its nostalgic fans are still alive. One problem with Aladdin though is that some US viewers will consider it too foreign and challenging for their taste.

Re: Aladdin predictions
Will Smith’s voice is not very tuneful but he’s not bad on the soundtrack. Naomi Scott is amazing though.

Re: Aladdin predictions
Rotten Tomatoes is at 70%. Not enough to convert any on the fence. But probably not enough to scare any away either.
I think it opens just over under 85m 3day.

Re: Aladdin predictions
The reviews are absolutely disappointing enough to make a difference, especially with Toy Story 4 and The Lion King around the corner. Nobody should be surprised if this lands with an elephant thud.

RT is at 65% with 47 reviews. Could end up rotten at this rate.

Re: Aladdin predictions
Definitely ending up rotten. BO.com is predicting 75m over 4 days. That is very conservative.

I still think it will open well enough, but it doesn't sound like WOM will be doing it any favors.

Re: Aladdin predictions
It has wrestled with bad word-of-mouth before, and it came back. I think these reviews will mean nothing. People will give it a chance anyway. The intrigue alone will be enough to secure a decent opening.

Re: Aladdin predictions
This will be another Memorial Day letdown for Disney. People know what else is around the corner and won't be quick to rub the magic lamp.

91% Audience Score. Doesn't look like they have the new system working yet.

Re: Aladdin predictions
Except Will Smith wasn’t actually bad. It’s better than the early buzz.
