Re: Weekend Estimates
Trying to think of anything bigger (BOM isn’t loading right now) but that’s gotta be the biggest non sequel WW opening ever, right? I don’t think BP was that big? I know there’s asterisks because it’s part of the Marvel universe, but still.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Just checked and yes, it beats the first Avengers by 60m. If you don’t count that, it beats BP by 80m. Should clear 1.2 billion and maybe approach 1.5.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Another hit for the MCU, the most successful movie franchise in history. And they are still growing.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Really glad to see that the "backlash" against Brie Larson didn't do anything at all. I don't even think she made that radical of comments?
Anyways, really huge opening WW. Domestic opening was on par with expectations, but still great. Should be able to make it to 400m as long as it isn't too frontloaded.

Not that the movie ever had a chance of changing their opinion. $150M is absolutely fantastic. Way above the standard for the solo movies. Marvel somehow continue to impress even as they destroy the record books every year.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Great opening. If it has a similar multiplier to Doctor Strange [2.7] it'll end up with 418m, just above Wonder Woman. An Ant-Man multiplier [3.16] would give it a 483m finish.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Didn't CM open just about everywhere but Japan this weekend? There aren't a lot of movies that open in both US and China the same weekend, so it's hard to project WW final on this one.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Incredible numbers for CM. The OS results are even more impressive than its domestic numbers which is definitely kind of surprising to me considering this didn't have the most appealing marketing campaign, but who says you need to have one when you have the Marvel name attached and going into the biggest if not one of the biggest films this year.
If it actually crosses $1B which is very likely at this point than Marvel will have officially become the biggest an most successful franchises ever OS since like the HP/LOTR franchise days.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Captain Marvel went up from 6.8 to 7.0 on IMDB. Scores usually decline. It’s a clear sign that the initial negative reviews are A) not representative and B) losing their hold.

Re: Weekend Estimates
I feel this opening weekend is also really telling in regards to the hype for End Game. It is going to have an absolutely massive opening.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Infinity War's OW will be closer to $300m than $250m!! Massive!
Total over $750m, probably $800m.
Worldwide over Titanic.

On the contrary, it should be quite easy. 1.7/1.9x in China 1.9/2.2x in rest of Asia 3x in Europe/Australia 2.5/2.8x in LA +10/15M from Japan= 1.1B/1.2B range. Targets are Aquaman and Civil War. IM3 still possible, just because competition is rather weak.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Kind of surprised with Dragon's drop. For a well received film, it hasn't rebounded any.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Dragon is dropping more like a YA-novel adaptation then a celebrated family movie. Which is what the demographics suggested, but it’s still a bummer that it won’t sniff $200M. Though it should stabilize next week, if that is the case, Captain Marvel will have hit it harder than Wonder Park could.

Horst holds ever I think for a superhero movie. 1.2B a lot less likely, sub-1.1B more possible.

Pretty standard range for a superhero movie, though.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Nah, 1B is locked.
@Algren: Not that standard actually, as there are only 2 original solo SH movies above the billion, and CM has a decent chance to beat one of them. In fact, at KJ all but one predicted CM to gross less than 1B WW.
