Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
Just saw the new trailer. Doesn't look that good, unfortunately. Feels separated from the epic storyline of the MCU, which means it will not be a huge huge huge grosser. It feels like Ant-Man and The Wasp and Doctor Strange. Very odd to have an origin movie at this stage of the MCU. Could make $150 million. Don't see it being groundbreaker as Wonder Woman already claimed the first female superhero crown. Also, we all know that Brie Larson isn't a great actress (for those of you that don't know, you should do!), but here she seems even more rigid than usual.

Still not really feeling this after the 2nd trailer. Looks more like a more serious take on the GotG. Still no smile or sense of fun from Brie

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
I dunno. Looks very serious and like several movies we have seen before. And since it doesn’t seem to advance the story, I could see audiences giving it the Ant-Man treatment and just waiting for Infinity War 2.

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
It looks ok but is a bit disappointing in that it comes off a bit bland and have to say Brie Larson seems rather wooden.
The fact that it is an origin story and that it is hard to market her link to the greater MCU series will hurt its box office a bit but I can still see it making 250m or so.
The best parts book end the trailer:
- the part on the train - her flying in space

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
I still see this opening over $100M and finishing north of $300M. It's definitely not going to be another BP and it doesn't have to be, because anything over $200M would be great for it.

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
The final trailer seems to be getting much better reception than any of the previous trailers which can only be a good thing. I honestly think it was smart of Marvel/Disney to go in the formulaic direction this time around by actually making this look like a Marvel film. Hopefully, now all the whining stops, but even with that in mind it looks like the movie is already doing really well in pre-sales. I'm sure there is going to be some kind of press statement about this breaking some kind of pre-sales record in its first 24 hours, although no idea how much it matters since this movie is still two months away.

The new trailer actually gives a bit of plot and character.
Still not sold it’s doing 300m but I could see 100m opening now.

Yeah, new trailer is a massive improvement over the first two. Using Elastica's "Connection" to sell the mid 90's setting is fun. And hey it worked for Hackers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VMF9991TQ0

https://twitter.com/Fandango/status/108 ... 6%3Fs%3D21It's kind of surprisng to see AM&TW on there, but regardless this seems locked for a $100M+ OW and if reviews are really good I can see it going as high as $150M.

Yeah, I see this opening like the first Hunger Games (man, looking back the opening for that film really was incredible)

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
Unfortunately it doesn't look very good.
Perhaps it's because of all the alien shit, which I know is based on comics but, eh, it's hard to do a straight up dramatic movie out of that.
I'd venture to say that only when mixed in with other genres (comedy for Thor/GOTG and fantasy Thor/Avengers) does it come across better otherwise it's just uninteresting.

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
Lol the 'want to see' % for this on RT is 31%. Not sure if this will have any effect as the reviews will most likely be glowing.

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
Wasn't there some sort of RT sabotage by haters? I saw a headline about that but didn't read the article.

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
We live in such an over-communicated society that headlines are all we can muster. So we make up the rest of the article based on the headline. Which is why click-bait headlines are shaping opinion.

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
Assuming that Captain Marvel's real want-to-see score was around 96% sans trolls and all trolls downvoted the film, that would put the troll count at around 25,000.

"Want-to-see" is down to 28% now with 44,735 votes. Troll count est: 31,000 Frankly I don't think manipulating this metric will help sway people away from Captain Marvel, unless it is well-known.

Re: Captain Marvel Predictions
The RT trolling had no effect on BP, so I don't see why it would have an effect here. They can down vote the score all they want, but once the reviews come out that's all that's going to matter for general audiences.
