Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
This is probably going to become one of the best box office runs of all time based on initial data. That's the second best hold of any film ever in 2500+ theaters on a normal weekend not impacted by a holiday. Puss In Boots is ahead of it but I believe was impacted by bad weather in its first weekend.
The best comparison I'm seeing so far from two weekends is There's Something About Mary adjusted for inflation:
There's Something About Mary Weekend 1: $27,159,000/$35,177,500 Weekend 2: $24,786,800 -8.7% $80,850,100
Crazy Rich Asians Weekend 1: $26,510,140/$35,276,909 Weekend 2: $25,010,000 -5.7% $76,817,947
With a holiday in its third weekend, starting to think $200 m may be the new floor. The most promising figures for breakout watercooler status are the demographic shifts this weekend.
Weekend 1: Asian 38% with opening day at 44% Caucasian 41% Hispanic 11% African-Americans 6% Other 4%
Weekend 2: Asian 27% Caucasian 48% Hispanic 13% African-Americans 9% Other 3%
Crazy Rich Asians also picked up strength in the South and Midwest vs weekend 1 which was dominated on the coasts. It still hasn't peaked yet as demographics are bringing in new quadrants.

Amazing hold. Brings back memories of MBFGW (romcom, demographically focused, generates good reviews and WOM = large multiplier).
So rare to see 2nd weekend non-holiday dips like this.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
CRA now looks to be set for #2 rom com of all time once it passes What Women Want, just behind no less than, MBFGW.
Sometimes it takes a movie like this to completely re-charge an entire genre which hasn't seen many breakouts in a long time.
This past Saturday was also the film's BIGGEST day so far and beat last Saturday. To have its 11th day be its biggest considering this could easily had a rush out factor to it is pretty impressive considering it started wide.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
The white % is still low considering Asians are such a small minority in the US, so there's a looot of room for growth. This could do $200m+ total.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
This is doing even better than some of our high expectations. Amazing hold.
Reminds me most of There's Something About Mary and The Sixth Sense and the baseline numbers are very similar.
MBFGW was a different beast entirely as it somehow kept bubbling away just above the surface.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
Yeah that hold is just AMAZING. This is shaping up to date have a HUGE run. Would be interesting to see how it unfolds weeks ahead and maintains its status. This year after BP (on a larger scale) we will have a second movie showing great legs. Last year WW, TGS and Jumanji did the same.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
It's really exciting to have a genuine WOM sensation to track at the box office again.
Definitely reminded of The Sixth Sense. Similar opening and second weekend hold. There's a great chance it gets to 200 Million.
I'm also very impressed with Searching. An average of $40,000 in 9 theaters is really great for it. Here I was thinking maybe an $18,000 average but it flew past that.

I wasn't sure I'd ever see a hold like that again.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
Does this mean anything for A Star Is Born? It's the next major romantic film coming out.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
I don't think the impact will be on every other romantic film though A Star is Born might still do slightly more if the trailer is played before CRA and the awareness increases but it won't be big enough. CRA should be one of the movies that don't impact the current BO like MBFGW, its not making BIG numbers week-after-week but its consistent enough every week to have a BIG total.

Re: Crazier Rich Weekend Numbers
A Star is Born is destined to bomb anyway. Won't make $35m! Go on Chip, "save" this post too. Though not sure why you need to quote it. I'm not going to edit it. Don't give a flying fuck what people on this forum think.
