Given WB's recent struggles, the incredible popularity of the franchise, and the enormous success of the book/play, this should have been more obvious. It's likely just a matter of time until there's an official announcement.

Whenever it opens, 6 P.M. previews will break the record. Global gross will be incredible no doubt.

Doesn't the play kind of suck and a lot of fans don't even consider it canon? That was the impression I got. I'm not sure a movie would necessarily do Avengers/Force Awakens/Deathly Hallows II (intl) level numbers unless it was going to be part of a new modern day series with multiple instalments.

This will not be big.

The play is awful and fans hate it. It would come nowhere close to DH2. Maybe it could outdo Fantastic Beasts by a bit, but that’s it.

The Play is awesome when read. The stage production is very rough.

It's awful to people for a lot of reasons:

You had to see the play 2 nights consecutively because they say it's too long for one setting
It's Harry Potter Cameos, including the mains, so little to do with them. Yet Harry has easily the most heartbreaking scene of the series.
It's the most like Prisoner of Azkaban, but a lot of dark elements happen.

It's completely in Canon, but it's not a Harry storyline. If they come with an Adult Harry film go with it, and use Cursed Child as a trilogy so you can use elements of the first to give the adults a stronger arc.

I bit confused by the negativity. The play recieveved rave reviews in both London and NYC and is a sold out smash in both, where it will be playing for years and years. I’m seeing it in June and couldn’t be more excited and yes, I’ve read the play.

This will happen for sure... someday. It certainly won’t be in the next ten or probably even fifteen years.

You're gonna listen to Zwak. The first 8 films are in his top 10 best films ever made. Never use KJ as a general consensus.

One problem is Alan Rickman is dead. Not sure how they can recast Snape.

Cursed Child is non-canon shit.

Voldermort was a pretty big reason for HP movies to stick together. I don't think a new villain could replicate him which is why I think this will drop over OW and total.

I really cannot see Radcliffe playing Potter again. I'm really the worst person to know anything about this franchise or its potential. But I'll say it will make $400m and become the highest-grossing one of the lot. Potter fans are crazy.

Hogwarts Legacy sold a whopping 22M copies in 2023 as the year's best selling title (2M just in December). The Harry Potter IP remains very strong even if Fantastic Beasts botched it theatrically.

I think they should try the animation route. Might be a fun low key way to get originals involved in limited capacity.

Still, if 22M people who bought the game show up to see a new HP movie, that would be $242M in box office already. HP still has a few more $1B global grosses in it for the right movie.

The love for the original 7 books and film franchise is still there.

It’s just Warner Bros and JK Rowling ran the franchise into the ground. If the quality went up it could do well again.

Maybe…I think people want a break from these mega franchises like Harry Potter and Marvel and their upteenth movie spectacular, the milk’s run dry

I think the success of the game and lack of success of the Fantastic Beasts movies shows that people care more about magic school than they do about the wizarding world as a whole. Cursed Child, where Harry is a depressed wizard cop, is not going to achieve the results they want. Scrap it and make Harry the defense against the dark arts teacher (and maybe a pro quidditch player in the summer) with a whole new set of students that get into magical mischief.

I think with the Max series coming the brand may be left alone in movie form for a while, especially since Radcliffe and Watson's personalities scream that they're never coming back.

Emma Watson loves attention too much and the roles have dried up, so she will eventually cave. Radcliffe is the millennial Mark Hamill and eventually he'll cave too just like Mark Hamill did.

They waited 32 years for the SW original cast to reunite with A Force Awakens.

We've had 13 years since the last Radcliffe HP. If HP followed that road (19 years from now in 2043) definitely feels like it would be A Force Awakens type event.

I don't think they'll wait that long and we could see something around the 20th anniversary at the latest (2031).

The original Star Wars cast never actually reunited though ....

I dont think JK Rowling wants any of the actors who badmouthed her to return. I think its part of the reason she agreed with the remake of the stories with the new series, she will be involved and want nothing to do with the og cast.
