People have got all the films in the top 5 right before, but never in the right order.

People have got all the films in the top 5 right before, but never in the right order. Say you got the top 5 order right but guessed 100 million over each of their actuals and missed them all individually - I'd be a lot more impressed by the person who won all 5 movies individually but missed the order of them. There's a bigger element of luck than skill in nailing the exact order that accounts for the rarity.

History of the game shows you that isn't true. Thirty box office predictors try to guess the top 5 each game and none of them have done it yet. Because of luck? No. Because it's very difficult to get it right.

If Ant-Man doesn't beat Solo that's very lucky for zwack and biggestgeek as it's gonna be close.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018 - Points Update Jul
Either way, we're obviously going to give them the promised 15-point bonus for this game, as it is going to be a momentous accomplishment. I do think some bonus for a perfect top 5 is justified, but I am also wanting to give people credit for putting a movie in their predicted top 5 that does make the top 5, but not necessarily in the right order. So: 1 pt per predicted Top 5 movie that does end up in the actual Top 5 1 pt per correctly predicted rank for a Top 5 movie 5 pt bonus for a perfect Top 5 So let's say in a future game, the actual top 5 was: #1: Star Wars Episode XIV - $900 million #2: Avatar: Never Too Late - $750 million #3: Avengers: Be Avengin' - $700 million #4: Spider-Man: Prom - $700 million #5: The Quietest Place - $200 million Some examples of what players would score based on their top 5 prediction: Jason #1: Avatar: Never Too Late (1 pt) #2: Star Wars Episode XIV (1 pt) #3: Avengers: Be Avengin' (2 pts) #4: Spider-Man: Prom (2 pts) #5: The Quietest Place (2 pts) BONUS: 0 pts
Alex #1: Avatar: Never Too Late (1 pt) #2: Star Wars Episode XIV (1 pt) #3: Spider-Man: Prom (1 pt) #4: Avengers: Be Avengin' (1 pt) #5: Space Jam 2 (0 pts) BONUS: 0 pts
Ander #1: Star Wars Episode XIV (2 pts) #2: Avatar: Never Too Late (2 pts) #3: Avengers: Be Avengin' (2 pts) #4: Spider-Man: Prom (2 pts) #5: The Quietest Place (2 pts) BONUS: 5 pts

The M:I franchise just has a ceiling, and that's around $220m. It indeed does look excellent, but it would need to be extra special to shatter that. And it's opening at the end of July. If it opened at the start, maybe.

No way Equalizer makes more than Mamma Mia total. It has way too much competition coming up.

Excited to predict the next game with no Marvel or Star Wars to make things obvious. It will be between Mary Poppins, Aquaman and Wreck-It Ralph to win the season, with Fantastic Beasts and the Grinch as potential upsets.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018 - Points Update Jul
If MI6 gets MI5's multiplier it will just barely beat Solo, which is entirely possible since it's the most liked and best reviewed one in the series.
Ant-Man 2 survived its biggest test nicely by dropping less than 50%, so it could also coast along and just edge out Solo.
Will be fun to watch.

Spy Who Dumped Me may be my worst prediction ever in this game. Comedies are not having a good time in 2018.
