As expected, a pretty non-diverse set of Top 5 predictions for 29 players: More charts will be up over the next few days. If you want to take a look at the database of predictions (maybe to check to make sure I entered yours in correctly), click here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
moviegeek151 has a risky order. Incredibles 2 to win the summer And considering Deadpool 2 is tracking for a $150m debut, excluding it from his top five is just crazy.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
I am surprised at the amount of predictions for Action Point as the answer to question 10. Was it a whole load of copying or is there a legit reason people think it will breakout? It looks lame and unfunny to me. Anyway, this is my answer to #10:

I copied. I had no idea what to put for that question

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
I don't have much faith in Mile 22 because recent Mark Wahlberg/Peter Berg projects don't tend to light the box office on fire (Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon). Doesn't seem like it will have the appeal of something like Lone Survivor. But really it's as good an answer as any.

If Mile 22 makes Deepwater Horizon numbers, that wins question 10.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
Seems like it has less appeal than that though. Can probably do 40 Million. We will get a better idea when there's a trailer. I also see Action Point doing just over 40 Million. Looks horrendous but there are a lot of people out there that find the lowest form of comedy to be hilarious.
I'm not sure how it will look from the trailer but apparently it killed at CinemaCon so I think Happytime Murders will do over 50 Million.

Yeah, there's a lot of unknown potential in August films. One of them may surprise.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
I expected someone to give MI:Fallout a spot in the top 5. There's the deal breaker. If that happens, no one wins, AGAIN. Another way would be for Ant Man and Wasp to place above 5th place.

If they would have put Ant Man in Avengers: IW it could have happened. Surprised they didn't to build up interest in that movie. Doubt it happens now.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
I ran out of time to find out about the other movies, so that's why I put Action Point in. Think I was only at the start of June, & August movies without trailers are risks anyway. There's a new trailer out for something called Kin. Could fail, dumping weekend and all, but production values look a lot higher than the usual fare.
Fallout has no chance. Doubt it even beats the last Mission Impossible. They are well-made films, but the whole thing is tired now. It will never be able to get back to $200m without any reinvention- and honestly, who even wants any reinvention at this point.
The problem with Ant Man is that the trailer looks quite poor. To be fair, I thought Black Panther's looked terrible as well. But after the wave of Phase 3 films with their distinct styles, Ant Man is looking a bit lost and bland. Evangeline Lily is also such a non-star that I was wondering whether they recast the part. Bucky Barnes level of "who's that again?" And I liked the original Ant Man, but really this almost falls into the "making a sequel for a sequel's sake". I've still bumped up my prediction at the last minute by around $60m because A:IW was really good and that goodwill should translate, but wouldn't be surprised by a middling gross either.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
I agree with Fallout having no chance. I believe it will modestly decline from Rogue Nation as Rogue Nation did from Ghost Protocol.
I am intrigued to see how Hotel Transylvania 3 fares. The second film saw a healthy increase from the first, but I am not sure it was wise to move the franchise away from late September and October. Even with the "Summer Vacation" angle.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
I was thinking a massive drop-off a la Ice Age 4 to Ice Age 5.
TBF HT as a franchise has been mindnumbingly resistant to its toxic reviews and awful trailers, but I fail to see what about it is even remotely appealing.
"Summer Vacation" also shows how bottom-of-the-barrel the creative team is at. It's in the vein of the "move-to-a-different-country" sequel shtick.

Re: KJ's Summer Box Office Contest 2018
If it weren't for the Summer Vacation angle and the fact that it's the last major animated movie of the summer I would have expected a bigger decline for Hotel Transylvania 3. The fact that it has quite a few weeks before school starts without animated competition (yeah I know there's Teen Titans but that is a non-factor) will make it pretty leggy. But yeah, they were indeed stupid to take the series out of the Fall season.

Let me know if you see any mistakes in your predictions or on the charts. I'm hoping there's not any, but there's usually 1-2.

I can't remember how many answers there were for previous #6 and #7 questions, but seems like a record number of picks this time around.

The only musical sequel comparison I could fins however was Grease 2, which doesn't give it great prospects.

It looks fun. Feel-good summer entertainment. The first was a huge hit and audiences will be hungry for a new musical after The Greatest Showman and this is the next one. I'm excited for it. I know what I'm talking about. I predicted 150 million for Showman .

Musical fans will see anything that does not have Tom Cruise in it. They should really put like 5 or 6 of these things out per year.
