Snyder’s big budget career is over. I wonder how many execs at Warners will get fired over this? Maybe even Tsujihara is screwed with that dumb mandate of his.

This is Zack Snyder's legacy: a Justice League movie opening below $100M.

Holy. Shit. That's a disastrous preview to Friday multiplier. Just terrible.

Re: Early Fridays (spoilers: it's a bomb)
I’m currently covering a 4:45 “LieMax” screening. Though I expect tonight to be slightly busier (and WB better pray it is), in this 337 seat theater there are currently 26 people. Thor tripled that two weeks ago at a similar showtime.
BvS/Zack Snyder might not have scared off people to Suicide Squad or Wonder Woman (at least not in a major way), but it sure as hell scared people away from this. Snyder is officially box office poison...just like he was after Sucker Punch. Turns out rushing to match Marvel and hiring the first person who said yes wasn’t the best idea.

Re: Early Fridays (spoilers: it's a bomb)
Per deadline: Quote: Also, note, there’s only 1% K-12 schools out today, and Lionsgate’s Wonder is coming on very strong thanks to school pre-sales. Likely, that’s where Justice League might be losing the younger audience. Friday is looking at $10M-$11M and $30M-$32M.

I guess there was a good reason why Lionsgate dumped Only the Brave in favor of Wonder. The distributor is on a roll this year.

What the fuck at Wonder.
Justice League not even passing Wonder Woman... Jesus fucking Christ. I'm glad Aquaman is done filming, but who the hell knows what idiotic thing WB does now.

Awesome for Wonder! And to think industry tracking had it at $9m last week.

Wonder is apparently a gigantic children’s book. And JL never had a chance to pass Wonder Woman. Not with Snyder still involved. The only question is how close will it come to Man of Steel.

Wow at Wonder! And it should hold well all throughout the holidays. 100m is near guaranteed and 150m won't be out of the question.

Re: Early Fridays (spoilers: it's a bomb)
Jesus Christ at those numbers for Wonder. I had no fucking idea the book was that much of a big deal, but if I did I definitely would have predicted more than $10M. Also, I think this the end for JL films for a while as it should be. Warner Bros just needs to take their time and get their shit together. These team up movies just aren't working so far and if the best thing about JL is truly the characters than they are better off just focusing on that aspect.

It definitely should have opened bigger. And if it had good/decent WOM, I could have seen it over/under 400m, so it could have been close

Re: Early Fridays (spoilers: it's a bomb)
Yeah, but that’s relying on Snyder making a good film. He’s made one film in his career that’s universally liked. It was also his first.

Re: Early Fridays (spoilers: it's a bomb)
Amazing that audiences clearly pay attention to reviews and directors.
JL and BVS global gross will combine for like $1.6b when one good Batman movie used to sell that many tickets.

I knew something was up when the theaters around me had it booked below IT and THOR. Sometime I guess theater owners know more than we do...

Frankly, it should have been over after Suck Punch. Watchmen only barely broke even, and his passion project was an all-out flop that no one liked. Giving him three chances at the DC universe was just an obscenely moronic mistake. Thank god for Wonder. I think the school trips will frontload Friday a bit, but it's gonna have some stupid-good legs - it might even increase next weekend, ala Blind Side? Not sure if I mentioned this here, but the live-action family film has been a very underserved brand of movies this year, with A Dog's Purpose, Monster Trucks, and the Wimpy Kid repeat being the only real offerings, so I wonder if that helped. Either way, this could be an exciting box office run to watch.

Giving him three chances at the DC universe was just an obscenely moronic mistake. Yep, he never should’ve been hired. Warners was desperate to catch up to Marvel though. And here we are. WB should be very thankful to have Patty Jenkins right now. Otherwise there wouldn’t be a DCEU. Also, the Deadline article mentioned that Wonder and Thor might be eating into JL’s audience. I can confirm, at least at the theater I’m covering, that they absolutely are. Lots of kids and 26-34 year olds in Thor and lots of families for Wonder. Couldn’t have broken any worse for Warners. Or they could’ve waited the 6-8 months to find a new director and open it in the summer. Nah, that’d be stupid.

Is this the biggest shock negative opening of all time? The only thing I can think of that even comes close is Prince Caspian, and that was a much lesser property.
