Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
Female empowerment + lots of money.
The Valentine’s date initially seemed weird. But from the EW cover to this poster, every bit of marketing has been ... somewhat arousing. I cannot wait to see Sophoenix in action.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
Is it really that hard to give us a money shot of a massive flaming bird flying through space devouring planets?

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
The serious lack of money shots in that trailer is quite surprising to me. I understand that they are still working on the effects, but this movie is only like 4 months away. They could have gave us something that at least looked like a hook, but nope it's mostly just people standing around in rooms.
Maybe the movie itself will be better than Apocalypse, but that trailer isn't going to get anyone excited.

Yeah it looks very low-budget. And they are remaking the origin scenes from The Last Stand? Weird trailer.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
I also expected they'd embrace the setting a little more. Where are the crazy colorful 1990's costumes with hundreds of pockets?
We don't even get a song from that era in the trailer.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
I'm sure they are waiting to unveil the Quicksilver "Smells like teen Spirit scene"
Though if I was going for comedic value, I'd play it against the theme of Dawson's Creek.
Just the imagery of people's faces about to die and "I don't wanna wait, for our lives to be ovah" would be pretty great.

Mess at this being a literal remake of X-Men: the Last Stand.

I think it looks pretty cool.
I'm gonna guess a 60's opening, less than $150m finish.

Poster is good yet standard, it's box office gross I expect to be nothing surprising, signs are it will decline from the last one.

Mostly these twitter people who see early screenings. They seem to be saying that it mirrors The Last Stand.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
I just hope it serves as a proper send-off for the franchise. Even if the movie isn't great, they've got to stick the landing after 19 years of these things.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
https://youtu.be/1-q8C_c-nlMLol did they just reveal Mystique dies in the beginning? I think it actually looks solid.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
I've pretty much liked the whole X-Men series, and this looks like a good enough film among them. Despite me wanting to see this, I think fatigue for this series has kicked in and it will gross less than Apocalypse.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
Yikes. The EW cover is the only good piece of marketing this movie has had. Would we be that surprised if it has a $35/$80M run?

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
Not a good trailer. I don't care to see a film I've already seen, but with less daylight. Female-centered X-Men movie will not excite many people.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
So this is basically Bryan Singer's original idea for X-Men 3, which involved the Phoenix Force in space and Emma Frost (who I assume is what Jessica Chastain's character is filling in for) manipulating her, before he ditched to do Superman and Fox had to put together a quickie script and hire Brett Ratner.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
I honestly didn't think the trailer was that bad, but I just don't care about this movie and it seems like a lot of other people don't either. It just feels like this franchise should have ended a long time ago and no one fucking cares that they killed off Mystique lol. Hell, the director pretty much confirmed it in a interview.

Re: X-Men: Dark Phoenix predictions
I've actually liked the last, like, seven X-Men movies, but Logan felt like a franchise closer despite only featuring one X-Man. This just feels like extra that we didn't need. Studios will never learn. They always have to lose money on a bomb to figure things out. I'm hoping this bombs hard. It will be sad because X-Men is a pretty enjoyable universe, all things considered. But they need to be more creative like they were with First Class and Days of Future Past, instead of remaking old X-Men movies. And The New Mutants looks even worse. I know I will get a lock of flack for saying this, but it honestly doesn't help that these two X-Men movies both have a female focus.
If they want to keep the X-Men franchise going, they need to include Deadpool in the X-Men series proper. I do not believe it needs to be rescued by the MCU. That would kill its vibe, and they would get lost. Much like the Guardians.
I also don't agree with fan opinion regarding timelines. Comics certainly don't care about this sort of thing. They have spinoffs and series and storylines that are just there, not connected to any central timeline. Movies of comic-books shouldn't be any different.
