The Mummy predictions
... I guess we don't have a thread on this yet?
Universal seems set on making this Dark Universe, how do you guys think this will do?
I'd be surprised if this does 150m+ domestic but maybe it's another leggy Tom Cruise film?

Re: The Mummy predictions
I thought we did have a thread for this. This could be leggy but I think it looks VERY bad so it will open less and end up just above $100m total. The last one managed $40m because Fraser was returning but I think this will be the first of the franchise that will fall below that mark.

Re: The Mummy predictions
I'm really not surprised about the lack of enthusiasm here, because the trailers haven't done anything for me either, but I do have a hard time seeing this completely flopping. The budget is reportedly only $125M so it should at least break even WW, but I'm very skeptical about this whole Dark Universe and have been from the beginning. Granted I love the amount of talent involved, but I just don't see general audiences caring that much even if this movie ends up being decent.
Anyways, I'll say 45/130

Re: The Mummy predictions
Has a lot of time to itself. I can see it surprising like World War Z. I think it looks like a lot of fun amidst all the shitty sequels. And I'm not expecting WW to be much of a factor even in it's second weekend.

I'm gonna go with 43/122. I hope it does better though, I wouldn't mind if this universe ends up being a success. (... unless I don't like this film lol)

Re: The Mummy predictions
Polling poorly with a few write-ins about Cruise getting on people's nerves. Sizable marketing push and June release will avert an epic fail.

Re: The Mummy predictions
As for Mummy... I think it will do well. It looks good. Cruise is mostly a draw.
Probably around $40 mil OW, $110 mil Total. Which, imo, is fine enough.

Re: The Mummy predictions
The trailer in front of Covenant was really bad IMHO. I could easily see this pull The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor numbers. So $40m/$100m.

Re: The Mummy predictions
I think that The Mummy breaks out only if the reviews are decent. Mummies aren't as popular as Zombies were in 2013 so I don't really buy the World War Z comparison. It can't be ignored that Tom Cruise's only recent hundred million domestic grosser outside of Mission Impossible was the underperforming Edge of Tomorrow which barely hit that number. I do have the movie over a hundred because I think it will open decently enough.

Re: The Mummy predictions
This looks generic as hell but there is good enough audience for this kind of action movies. Isn't this 4th Mummy movie as well?

Re: The Mummy predictions
Well I was referring to BK's comment about direct sequels/reboots and how Mummy looks fresh and original because of that. But yeah there has been quite a few Mummy movies around as well.

Re: The Mummy predictions
It won't set the world on fire, but it will do well. Well enough to be a modest success in the grand scheme of Cruise's career and let Universal play around with their "Dark Universe" branding fantasies for a while.

Re: The Mummy predictions
This smells like a big fat bomb. Tom Cruise has flopped before, even with action movies (remember Knight & Day?). Sub $30m OW is possible.
