Re: March 24-26 Predictions
Life is being marketed enough, you'd think it could do $20+ mil OW...
Power Rangers I think will be around $35 mil, and Chips with like... $5 mil?

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
I really don't understand the massive predictions for Power Rangers. I could be wrong, but I don't think 90s kids were clamoring for this, or that today's kids are clamoring for it either.
Plus the ad campaign has been muted and it doesn't seem to be gathering a lot of buzz as far as I'm concerned.

Power Rangers - 28 Life - 18 CHiPS - 9 It's not just you. I'm thinking Power Rangers could have a Fantstic Four (2015) type opening. With BATB already opening high and Logan/Kong/GO exceeding expectations, I can't see it opening more than $30M. Also, CHiPS has a chance of opening lower than that figure due to the subdued theater count.

It's just odd seeing all the trends pointing towards something, and you consistently going against it just because of how you feel. $18 mil for Chips is just insane.

Power Rangers - 28 Life - 18 CHiPS - 9 I wouldn't say the ad campaign has been muted, at least theatrically. The trailers (all three) have pretty much been attached to every single movie I've covered since January. Lionsgate has been trying. I'm just not sure how effective it will be.

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
something has to disappoint, we though Kong was going to get lost, but maybe its Power Rangers instead. the box office needs to cool down anyway before Furious and then the summer

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
Maybe Fate of the Furious will be the disappointment . It will definitely drop a good amount from the previous one. I'm sure that will still do great though. I really can't see any of the movies expected to do well disappointing.

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
I have seen a LOT of advertising for Life, and it has a strong cast, but I am not sure it can draw a big audience. It feels a bit generic and a bit caught between genres (hard science fiction, not quite horror, a bit of action). And the antagonist, represented in the TV spots as a molecular blob, is not very distinctive. Hard to predict.

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
The majority of us are 90s kids and nerds and nobody gives a crap. To me that's a bad sign.
$23m
Life - $11m - wtf were they thinking with this move? Chips - $10m - we haven't had any successful comedies this year and that should keep it from bombing too bad.

Power Rangers - 28 Life - 18 CHiPS - 9 Agreed. Something like 26-28mwould be good and in line with what the first film did adjusted.

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
LA Times has Power Rangers tracking at $33M opening weekend which sounds about right to be honest. There is just no room for another breakout right now with the market being as crowded as it is.
Ghost in the Shell will be the next causality IMO.

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
I think Power Rangers can break $40 million for the weekend. It reminds me a lot of the first live-action TMNT, which looked lame to most of us but awesome to a sizable amount of the general populace. I've seen a number of my non-movie buff friends post about it, they seem excited.
I forgot that the other two were even opening next weekend. CHiPS is a bust, Life might be saved by its semi-starry cast.
Power Rangers - $41.4 million Life - $12.5 million CHiPS - $5.1 million

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
Life has solid reviews so far, that may push it to decent numbers.
And ya, there's an audience for Power Rangers that y'all are underestimating.

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
I instinctively voted "yes" to the $50m+ poll question, but upon further reflection I'd really only be confident in predicting $40m+.

Re: March 24-26 Predictions
I think either Power Rangers or Ghost In The Shell is going to feel the effect of Beauty and the Beast exploding and I'm honestly hedging my bets on the former. I also don't think they've done a good job with the ad campaign at all. We'll see I guess, depends on how reviews are. Lionsgate wants a seven movie franchise from it so I'm sure they are sweating bullets.
