Re: January 27-29 predictions
This is getting the movie quite a bit of attention, and it's still based on a bestselling book. The video appears to have been deceptively edited and there's been some heavy pushback from the company that handled the dog (whether that penetrates enough to make a difference, no idea).
FWIW, Deadline says it is tracking in the mid-teens.

It's DOA. Awareness is very high for all the wrong reasons.

Re: January 27-29 predictions
Moana is doing a singalong run this weekend. I guess they're still gunning for $250 million?
I wonder which Oscar films are expanding. Arrival, Moonlight, and Hacksaw would probably benefit well. Lion should finally aim for 1,000+ theaters, it could really break out with those six nominations.

Will be fun seeing how much of a boost La La Land gets. We are planning on adding showtimes at the expense of some languishing holdovers.

Re: January 27-29 predictions
My theater is finally getting La La Land and Manchester By The Sea. We're also getting a reissue of Arrival. But we're losing Moonlight in the process (but it did not do well here).

The semi-rural two-screen and six-screen theaters near me are both getting it, and they usually only get films if they're in at least 2,500 theaters. So, they must be going extra-wide this week, which is smart.

Arrival is re-expanding into 1,100 theaters. It should get to 100 Million.

Re: January 27-29 predictions
Moonlight is finally opening here and it's only two showings daily at 10 AM and 10:30 PM. It's going to make it very difficult for me to get to. Doubtful it's here more than a week. But somehow I have to make it to it.

Why is 10:30pm difficult to get to?

Re: January 27-29 predictions
All the tracking surveys seem to have A Dog's Purpose at $20M+ this weekend with the most conservative estimates in the high-teens. I guess the controversy isn't having as much of an impact as we thought.

Like, what type of place (not actual name and address)? I did recently work at a video store but they closed all of the remaining video departments at their stores. Now I'm temporarily working at a fast-food chain specializing in sandwiches . Not planning on this being for too terribly long. First time I've ever worked in the food service industry and it's not my thing. It's just really close to where I live so I spend much less on gas compared to my last job (which was worth it because I loved it).

It's the #3 ticket seller on MovieTickets.com with 8%. La La Land is #2 with 9% and Split #1 with 12%. DP might actually hit #1 on there by tomorrow I'm thinking. Resident Evil not being on there at all yet isn't a great sign.
