425 isn't more than 450 so no... Yeah, obviously. But what's $25m?

With Civil War it felt like you had to know the preceding films (Iron Man 3, The Winter Soldier, Age of Ultron...) to really get into it and most people I know who saw it actually saw those other films before as well. I saw the first Guardians with a group of nine people, 4-5 of whom have never watched a single MCU film before, but wanted to see a film with a talking raccoon and a talking tree. They loved it, they will come back for another one too. They have little to no interest to watch Civil War or the next Avengers.

Plus, it's proper space opera sci-fi with a sense of humor.

This being it's own thing will really help it appeal to casual audiences who don't really follow the other MCU movies, although I'm curious what they will think once they find out The Guardians are in the next Avengers movie. I have a feeling that if this one lives up to the hype then the buzz for Infinity Wars is going to be through the roof. It might not match the first movie, but $500M+ should happen.

But if GotG1 drew in people that didn't normally see Marvel movies and only did $335 mil, where is the extra $115 mil coming from? Those people who don't normally see Marvel films aren't the types to see a movie multiple times in the theater.

The film should have a bigger opening weekend and then it should have longer legs than Civil War considering its more accessible.

Wait, the weird sci-fi movie with a talking raccoon is more accessible than Captain America vs. Iron Man?

I never assumed that. I assume that is simply draws from different audience segments as well, while retaining large chunks of the Marvel fanbase. Guardians of the Galaxy is the Pirates of the Caribbean of the MCU.

Hype is not where I'd like it be for this. Well atleast for whatever ridiculous prediction I end up making for it. #BeatTheBeast I'll join the club though. But only $450m would be disappointing for me.

Re: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2. $450m domestic club
I think Guardians is seriously up there on beloved comic book movies, maybe even second of all time. Also, it doesn't have the lockout that Civil War had. (I think if someone didn't get around to Age of Ultron, they weren't going to check Civil War out.) But I don't know to what extent the average moviegoer thinks about the "lockout" factor? Do they think it applies to all MCU films? Anything with Marvel on the front? Do they think they'll miss anything if they didn't see Suicide Squad? Still, I think there is a substantial fandom not directly connected to superhero movies as a whole.
The downside, however, is that Marvel is kind of wonky with building up sequels, and that with people really enjoying the new Star Wars movies (Which I don't get, but they do), the appetite for space adventure might not be as high as it was three years ago.

Way out. Around 350m. Its presales are well below Civil War. Plus I dont see this being all well received as 1st one. That also released in end of dead summer(did not even have a 250m grosser).
