Visually gorgeous can't wait for this. It's like 5th Element times a thousand

Hm... I think it looks pretty good (liked the first trailer more) but it screams flop.

It will be lucky to match Ender's Game.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
The visuals do look nice, but I'm still expecting this flop. Atleast it comes out towards the end of summer where there isn't a whole bunch of big films opening after it.
Maybe that's enough to get it to an ok total, however it's going nowhere near $100M.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
La Femme Nikita, Léon: The Professional, and The Fifth Element were 20 years ahead of their time - I won't be surprised if Valerian is too. North American audiences will likely be too thick to grasp it. Still, I bet it will break the $100 million mark.

Yeah, can't see this finding an audience in theaters.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
I have enjoyed both trailers. I'm definitely excited. Idk why it's up against Dunkirk when there is nothing in August but annabelle.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
I think the visuals are decent but we need more of a trailer than a visual extravaganza which BTW isn't really something that we haven't seen before. Most big blockbusters have good visuals but they are not just thrown in your face like Valerian's trailers do, without warming the audience to the characters; that IMO is the biggest mistake here.
I don't see it making too much in OS as well and do sub-$200m WW, I'm sure the budget for this one will be more than $100m.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
Early reactions from critics seem promising. I'm starting to think this won't be a big flop but it seems unlikely it'll be a phenomenon considering how... weird it looks? Idk we'll see.

The advertising is strong, I believe, considering it is an odd bird of a project and a tough sell.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
I have noticed a positive expectation to this recently. But I still don't see it. It looks just like Jupiter Ascending or Ender's Game. This type of sci-fi trash never performs well in the USA, and unlike JA it doesn't have a star to save it.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
Yes even with decent reviews, I don't think this will get 80's or 90's at RT, this is not the type of movie that would do great in US, maybe it will do good enough in OS markets.

Clive Owen is in this. I didn't know that. Poor Clive.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
I think it looks visually stunning and could be quite fun. But as others have said, similar movies have not done well in the US. I enjoyed Jupiter Ascending and Ender's Game, so I'm expecting to enjoy this too. Not that I expect that to be the case with most people.

75 % RT so far (16 reviews) ranging from "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ Is Like ‘Star Wars’ on Crystal Meth, and It’s Almost Crazy Enough to Work" to "Like The Fifth Element, this will grow on people with time" to "The Razzies don't need to wait until the end of the year to anoint a winner"

I can't wait for this (my friends are really anticipating it too) but this screams cult classic... hope it doesn't do that bad.

It looks soo trippy & fun (like the Fifth Element x's a million). I hope it's a hit so we can get more creative/awesome sci/fi movies like this. I love a franchise to come out of this.

The worst I think it will do is Jupiter Ascending's 18m. More likely it gets in the 20-25m range.

If you're looking for a quiet place to read, one can find it in seconds following this trailer in theaters. High teens OW at best.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
Its by all accounts one hot mess. But it does at least look interesting and worth seeing in a theater. If anything the problem is the lead actors who are as unappealing as they come. $15m or so OW.

Re: VALERIAN and the City of a 1,000 Planets Predictions
only a 6.0 average though, and top critics (8 reviews) is 50%.
Going up against Dunkirk was a big mistake. In August this could've had a fighting chance to at least do decent.
