Interstellar came after TDKR. This is coming after Interstellar. I think the reviews will contribute to great legs, but I don't see the OW being anything spectacular.

The plot structure went completely over Jeremy Jahns' head. He also complains about the lack of dialogue to help explain stuff. He also shares a common complaint with many reviewers that there are no characters to grab onto and root for.

If his reaction is similar to the general audience, legs will be a disaster on this movie. Nolan may have done it this time and made an actual art film on a huge budget with big appeal to critics and very little appeal to regular moviegoers. Wonder how the test screenings have gone for WB with regular moviegoing folks.

Nah, the poster Box Office Z over on BOT saw the film weeks ago and even though he enjoyed the movie a lot, he posted that he is unsure how it will play with audiences.

If it does struggle at the box office, it would be funny if it does very well with the Academy. That would be a Nolan-esque plot twist given his career.

He always sees movies much earlier than any of us and he has pretty good instincts. We will know soon enough if this thing is working with regular audiences and not just critics. Inception showed incredible drops on its first Sunday and Monday.

Amazon has footage on their homepage. Smart strategy by WB. Can't accuse them of not trying. Hopefully it stays on Amazon for the rest of the week. Huge amount of casual Nolan fans probably use that website.

Nolan made Occupy Wall Street the villains in a Batman movie, so he can't be all that liberal.

Previews begin at 6pm. I'm thinking around $5.5m with a weekend line of 24/20/18 for $62m. Second weekend will be ~$50m and it could hold #1 for the rest of the summer if Dark Tower disappoints.

Interesting situation with BFCA (Critics Choice) right now. It's currently Nolan's lowest rated movie at 80/100 along with Interstellar and might be headed lower than that. Compare this with TDK (96), Inception (94), TDKR (91), BB (91), and Memento (90). Prestige was 83.

BFCA tends to be pretty populist for the most part, which explains the much higher scores for TDK, Inception, TDKR, and BB compared to MetaCritic. Yet here we are with a Nolan movie that's probably going to stay above 90 on MetaCritic and yet might end up in the 70's on Critics Choice. That is a huge split right there.

Not feeling $60m+ no matter how high the praise pile gets. Would be great to see moviegoers respond in a big way to a worthy product, though.

Other than the 70mm IMAX screenings (which are about 50% sold for evening shows), there are barely any advance ticket sales for this weekend in my market.

I suspect that movie is going to follow voter trends closely. Dunkirk will play like a superhero film in urban, mllenmial filled areas while play like hacksaw ridge in others.
