Holy shit.
Masterpiece and Nolans best ever seen to be general consensus.

Re: Dunkirk 225m+ Club - NOLAN IS GOD
So now the question is...did WB wait too long to unleash hell with the rave reviews? Is 3 days enough time to put the buzz for this film on steroids? We will see how it goes. Could work out great, but could backfire too.

45m/225m is not a crazy idea anymore. You can't assume it's a crowd-pleaser though. Critics and audiences don't always see eye to eye. I'm not sure how the limited dialogue will play with audiences. Mad Max had rave reviews, very limited dialogue, and the multiplier was not off the charts (3.38).

It's Nolan. Multiplier will be 10 minimum

He ruined it pretty early though. Think he was one of the first 10 or 11 reviews posted. His blurb on RT complains about the non-linear structure. You can't please everyone. Personally I am pretty excited about the non-linear structure because none of the marketing material indicated we would be getting this type of movie. A lot of people expected a straightforward war movie. Nolan is going the other way with it...fuck that, let's go for a Memento/Inception-ized war movie.

Good to see this is getting so many rave reviews, but I'm still keeping my expectations in check. If this opens to $40M+ it shouldn't have any problem getting close to $200M if it receives this kind of WOM from general audiences.

I feel like people ask this question right before every Nolan movie, and every Nolan movie has had pretty damn good legs. Dude's films are odd, but pretty much always connect with the audiences that seek them out. Even the supposedly disappointing Interstellar nearly had a 4.0 multiplier, and The Prestige got a 3.58 multiplier despite opening modestly in October and having a horrendously bleak ending. With summer weekdays I expect at least a 3.5 multiplier from wherever this opens, probably at least a 4.0 multiplier should be expected TBH with these raves and the "SEE IT BIG" hype.

Re: Dunkirk 225m+ Club - NOLAN IS GOD
RT consensus seems to be underselling it, especially compared to other blockbuster films that didn't have 9/10 average rating.
"Dunkirk serves up emotionally satisfying spectacle, delivered by a writer-director in full command of his craft and brought to life by a gifted ensemble cast that honors the fact-based story."

Re: Dunkirk 225m+ Club - NOLAN IS GOD
With the genre and reviews, I am expecting 5x+ legs. I would say 60/300 run is happening and around 400m OS($ is still too strong for OS to hit inception numbers).

Magnus wrote: And to Jon's point...the most remarkable thing about Nolan is his ability to connect with audiences. Even a film like Memento, which is far closer to a "art house" type of film than any accessible Hollywood film, has become a film that has connected with people who would never step near an art house theater. I highly doubt even with its odd structure that Dunkirk won't get a strong reception from audiences. Yeah, Memento is maybe the best example of how Nolan takes seemingly uncommercial material and makes audiences love it. Even the film's box office run is a good example: it was being handled by a first-time distributor, never went into wide release, or had a 3-day weekend gross above $1.6 million, but still made $25.5 million over the spring and summer. It's still one of his most incredible box office feats, tbh (behind only TDK and Inception).

Keep an eye out for reviews from the blogger types. Tend to think they have taste that lines up more with the general audience than professional film critics. In addition to the below comment, the Slash Film guy said he was never confused by any of Nolan's past films. The big question and we'll find out very soon...will it work with the general audience?

Jeff Wells was pretty negative on the film before seeing it, but he's now raving about it. http://www.hollywood-elsewhere.com/2017 ... um=twitter

Re: Dunkirk 225m+ Club - NOLAN IS GOD
Thanks. So just $205m from all non-US markets? No Chance. It will probably make AT LEAST $100m in China alone.
