Yeah I was being sarcastic. Of course it appeals to more than that.

Isn't this film closer to the Twilight franchise in terms of conclusions based on its pre-sales? As in, the audience will be heavily female and therefore is expected to be frontloaded? I don't see any four-quadrant appeal.

Yeah because it only appeals to middle school girls and moms going through a mid life crisis.

You two are idiots

A simple "no" would suffice.

Hmmm.

Friday: $73.1 million ($18.5 million)
Saturday: $57 million
Sunday: $41.1 million

So, $171.2 million. I'm close, but still out. Gonna be big tho.

Early reviews are split down the middle. Kind of surprising. Still think it will end up 80% fresh.

A lot haven't been counted yet. NYT for example was head over heels for it.

Why is it surprising? All the live action remakes get mediocre reviews. Jungle Book only coasted to its high score because of the FX.

Because the trailer is great and this is arguably one of Disney's Top 3 iconic stories.

Pretty much what I expected. It's pretty good, but Cinderella and Jungle Book are better.

This movie could get a 40% on RT and I still think it would open to $150M. It will be pretty much review proof come opening weekend, but I'd be really surprised if it got worse reviews than Kong. However, I do think Jungle Book kind of got by because of the incredible FX. Story wise that movie was hollow as shit IMO.

Weird considering how much simpler those original films were.

The polarizing response to this is pretty surprising IMO. I mean I haven't loved any of the trailers, but I was expecting this to get better than a 71% on RT. Between these reviews and the sudden gay outrage I'm very curious what the legs of this movie will look like, but I'm confident it's going to open HUGE regardless.

Advance sales for #BeautyAndTheBeast now outpacing #CaptainAmericaCivilWar on @Fandango. Tops #FindingDory as site's #1 family pic all-time.

... and before y'all start with the 'Fandango presales are BS!!!' BS, this info is better than nothing.

It will drop 50%ish. Probably about a 3X multiple considering only Alice and Oz, both with a weaker reception still managed 2.87 and 2.97 multiples. So a total in the high 400's still seems likely.

Though a family friendly pic opens each week after for three weeks until Fast 8. Boss Baby and Smurfs won't be big on their own but combined could make a dent. And Power Rangers has a lot of buzz it seems. Thinking a 50m opening weekend minimum.

The gay thing might hurt the film with staunch conservatives, which is roughly 45.9% of the USA. ;)

The gay character is Gaston's sidekick right? Why else would anyone hang around him?

Even people who don't want their kids to see a gay character should be smart enough to realize that kids won't understand it without them explaining it.

Probably depends on the age of the child. I notice Disney has decided not to comment on that one theater's decision not to show the film - taking a position of neutrality, I suppose (or whatever position results in now drawing attention to it).

Wasn't there a "gay couple" in Frozen or whatever?

Meh. Seems like a non-issue to me.

There was a gay couple in The background of Finding Dory apparently.
