I'm guessing we'll get the first teaser with Guardians. Star Wars celebration is in April and I'm going teaser #2 will be shown there Teaser #1 will be at the super bowl IMO Maybe, but it's a waste of money. It won't increase awareness for Star Wars. Better to spend it on Pirates, which could use the help. When it comes to Star Wars it's never a waste of money. The hells matter with you? Shit man I want the trailer yesterday lol Last year, a 30 second ad cost 5M. Why waste the money on a movie that doesn't come out for 10 months, and that everybody already knows about anyway? For me, the less I know and see about Ep. VIII, the more I'll enjoy my first viewing of it. I do admire your excitement though.

If my will power was stronger I'd do the same, but the force is not strong with me.

So if Episode 8 will be the last Jedi, will there be no Jedis in Episode 9?

Probably not. They're not killing off both Rey and Luke.

Show quick shots of Rey, Luke's lightsaber, Luke himself, Kylo, the new bad guy and the title, and you steal the night away from all other movies. As a Patriots fan, the game could go to overtime, and all anyone would talk about is (maybe) the end of the game, but mostly the Star Wars trailer. $5 million well spent. And of course, as well all know, $5m is like an eyelash to Disney, especially after the year they had. They won't, but they could air a commercial for all of their high profile movies this year.

Re: Star Wars - The Last Jedi Predictions
Super Bowl spot would be useless. Has any film that was coming out all the way in December released a spot for Super Bowl?

Re: Star Wars - The Last Jedi Predictions
Yeah, a superbowl spot makes no sense for this movie. Awareness is already very high and releasing a spot on YouTube in August will make just as big a splash, and it would save $5m.

I would love if they somehow pulled off showing no footage at all, like Driver was wanting. This would be the 1 movie in history that could get away with it. Everyone goes in blind.

Re: Star Wars - The Last Jedi Predictions
One thing Disney could do and help one bird and keep awareness high for the other (not that it'd be a problem for Star Wars) with one stone, is if they're worried about Pirates 6 (as they probably should be) they could just attach the first The Last Jedi trailer to that. Don't release it online and announce it's only attached to that film like Fox did with The Phantom Menace trailer with Meet Joe Black, The Waterboy and The Siege.

Re: Star Wars - The Last Jedi Predictions
With leaks as they are these days, I doubt any studio could pull it off.

I definitely think the first trailer should be in the summer. Pirates is the best option, though my guess is they will release it with Guardians.

Both Force Awakens and Rogue One had trailers in April. The Last Jedi will follow the same pattern. I'd guess it'll hit when Guardians 2 is released overseas.

It's not something Disney or (especially) Abrams wanted to do. It makes sense with yearly releases for them to follow Rogue One's schedule. Teaser in April, Trailer 1 in July, Trailer 2 in October.

Think opening will be really close to TFA but still under.

Trailer isn't as awe-inspiring as any of TFAs.

Re: Star Wars - The Last Jedi Predictions
The teaser is solid, but obviously can't compare to the trailers for TFA, especially the one with Han/Chewie at the end. I still expect this to be HUGE though. It should open to $220M+ and end up well over $700M domestic.

Not really, no, but that film had an advantage of A) basically no knowledge of what was to come, and B) showing certain characters for the first time in over three decades. But the trailer could have just been Poe and Finn eating cereal together for 3 minutes and people would rush out to it anyway. I think all the numbers will still have a slight decrease from TFA - both openings and totals. But it's still gonna be massive. I'll be a little surprised if it's not the #2 movie of all time by the end of its run.

$250m opening easily, y'all are nuts.
TFA & Rogue One created a whole new generation of diehards.

Re: Star Wars - The Last Jedi Predictions
$300 M/ $750 M WW should be $1.6 B+
And it'll totally destroyed Rock's Jumanji, both of his films this year have to suffer for releasing in wrong time.
