Re: Blade Runner 2 predictions
It's a $150-$200 million dollar R-rated sci-fi film that looks amazing, so I hope it does well, but it won't be easy. Gosling coming off of La La Land and Villeneuve coming off of Arrival hopefully locks this up for atleast Mad Max: Fury Road numbers, but the marketing department has a long way too go in order to get casual audiences interested, especially those that didn't see the first film.

Is it R-rated?

Re: Blade Runner 2 predictions
I am SO in for this film. Of all remaining films to be released this year, this is my most anticipated. Runtime was also released, a very meaty time of a little over 2.5 hours.

Re: Blade Runner 2 predictions
Early tracking already has it in the mid to high 40's which is around what I expected. If it gets great reviews I can easily see it opening in the 50's. It's going to need as big of open as it can get as well as good legs in order to become profitable for Warner Bros/Sony with a $185M budget.

Re: Blade Runner 2 predictions
Come on, it's opening to $65m+ and we all know it. Warner Bros is on fire. It has nostalgia, sci-fi, an actual fan base, 30 years anticipation, a good director, Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, and it actually looks good.

OW prediction: $42m
Why would they spend $185m on this?! Blade Runner has always been a borderline cult film. It's niche. It's not Star Wars.

It is not about what it is, but about what it can become. Blade Runner the film is a cult film, sure, but everybody knows the name, and that spells potential for Warner Bros. to franchise the hell out of it.

The potential is certainly there for this to be huge - similar to recent October sci-fi quality blockbusters like Martian and Gravity. It's also a similar situation to Tron but with a more well known and beloved original.

Re: Blade Runner 2 predictions
Tron Legacy is definitely the best comparison and hopefully strong reviews will offset the fact that this isn't opening in December like that film.

I went conservative on this in MGs game, but now i think its gonna break out. Atleast $57m for the October record.

The social media embargo for this ends Tuesday and the review embargo ends Monday Oct 2 at 9:00AM. All very positive signs IMO.

Final prediction: $40m/$115m
No idea how this does internationally, BOM doesn't even have an INTL gross for the first part. Sci-fi can go either way.

Re: Blade Runner 2 predictions
Early reactions are out and they are extremely positive. Now, it might be because it's just the initial fan boy hype, but this should definitely get great reviews among professional critics, although I'm still not sure how general audiences will react to it.They make it pretty clear that it isn't an action film, but more of a hard, sci-fi detective drama which is what I expected anyways. Mainstream audiences may not be expecting that though.

This will be well reviewed so I don't think that will be a problem for the film.

Re: Blade Runner 2 predictions
I'd expect a 50m plus OW - the hype and buzz are certainly there. Though it likely won't hit 150m total.

I am expecting a $40m OW with a solid $110m finish.
