Re: Dracula Untold Predictions
I looks much worse than I, Frankenstein. It looks on par with a film like Blood and Chocolate. It's also going up against Nighcrawlers that week, PA5, and Ouija.

Re: Dracula Untold Predictions
That at least had some stars, and some more than CGI battles filmed in close quarters cause that at least had a budget. Also Dracula as a family man who chooses to become a vampire to protect them is beyond dumb, even more so than Frankenstein as an anti hero demon fighter (Haven't seen the film, as that looked pretty atrocious too)

Re: Dracula Untold Predictions
Really, there isn't even an action shot in this trailer, just cuts to black. And then CGI bats attacking a CGI army is the big money shot. I don't think it'll do as bad as 5 million total but this is not any better than the Legend of Hercules, I, Frankenstein even Pompeii range. This looks like the cheapest 100 million budgeted film ever.
On name alone it should make more than $25 mil. But that's a stretch.

Really, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Kind of reminded me of Highlander a bit in the beginning.

Re: Dracula Untold Predictions
The title is rather dumb. Dracula Untold? Untold...lol because everyone wants to know the true story.
Of course if they didn't have Dracula, it would bomb even worse.
Today's society is heavily reliant on branding to tell them what's acceptable and what's not. Pathetic.

Re: Dracula Untold Predictions
Dave, why did you drop your prediction so much in a matter of hours?
I don't mind the trailer and Luke Evans looks good as Dracula, but with a $100M budget this is definitely going to BOMB.

It looks as bad as Argento's Dracula.

Re: Dracula Untold Predictions
I am a bit mystified by negative responses to the trailer. Granted, it is obviously not in any way a faithful or serious rendering of the Bram Stoker text, but in its own zany, revisionist, action-oriented horror sandbox, it seems very fun. In my opinion. Eons superior to I, Frankenstein.

It's cut from the same blood-stained cloth.

I, Frankenstein was such a pos movie. Aaron Eckhart's character was a complete zombie throughout the whole thing and the effects were laughable. Still the worst movie I have seen all year.
This atleast looks like it's being directed with some energy and I like the somewhat heroic take on Dracula even though it's ridiculous. It's different and I give them credit for that.
I'm not seeing what most of you are. The movie looks to me like it cost a lot of money, which it did. I like the unique take on the story. And it beats Paranormal Activity to theaters by one week, which will help. The only thing to me that will keep this from grossing my prediction is if the studio messes up the marketing, or if the Dracula name isn't enough to sell it. It has to be to succeed, because this movie has no star power.

Re: Dracula Untold Predictions
Well the last real Dracula film was Dracula 2000, and that made 33 million on a 54 million budget (or 47 million today) but that film looked a hell of a lot better. It had Craven's name attached (Who was still right off the Scream franchise) and a relatively solid cast and was aimed more at the college crowd. Even though that was 14 years ago, he's still been in about 10 different films, including bringing down the crappy Blade Trinity and Van Helsing, had a terrible TV show, etc. The name just isn't that much of a novelty anymore. Especially if it isn't a high concept retelling or has a strong cast attached.
I don't see the budget at all either. Like said, it terribly edits the action with cuts to black, and the CGI Bats taking over an army is hardly awe inspiring or original.

I don't get it. What are the studios thinking when financing a film like that?!

They must be hoping it breaks out overseas the way Hansel & Gretel did.
