"Silver added that neither he nor the Wachowskis intended for the film to respond to critics of the last two Matrix, films, which were critically assaulted. "From all sources, [the Matrix films] made $3 billion, so it's hard to say they weren't successful or they were disappointing," Silver said. "But the audience feels the way they feel. So the boys never saw it as a continuing saga; that was the end of the story. But it's them. They're very talented guys, and they do what they want to do." V for Vendetta is filming now with an eye on a November release."
that true or what?

What he's saying is true... from a certain point of view.
Well... at least the perception. He obviously is in the camp with the W. Brothers so he sees it day to day. He's also a producer, and lesson one about Hollywood is never, ever believe what producers say.
The Matrix made a lot of money, Reloaded made a shit-ton of money, by comparison of the momentum of the series and what they put into it, Revolutions was a huge financial disappointment.
The biggest problem with the series is that making shitty sequels undercut the entire franchise and will have an effect on the mainstream perception and future media sales that revolve around The Matrix world. They basically destroyed a bigger franchise.
I however do not buy the bullshit about "the boys didn't see it as a continuing saga" when you see their involvment in other Matrix projects, the post-Matrix game, the Animatrix, etc.

Uh...I believe in that $3 billion thing. Disappointment or not, Revolutions made $420+ million worldwide and that's quite a sum if you consider the rentals and sales. Theatrically, the Matrix movies made $1,623,967,842. I am pretty sure it was able to make a further ~$1.4 billion through merchandising, games, sales, rentals, the Matrix box-set, Animatrix, licences etc.

Just to put things into perspective, I remember that Star Wars: Episode I made around $6 billion worldwide, if you count all the merchandise sales and everything...
