I'm not worried. The movie delivers in action, comedy and enough story to keep an audiences attention. It may not reach 400 but who cares. It is already showing itself to be a major success with it's overseas gross already.

It's going to need to do at least $69m for a shot at a new OW record, in my opinion.

Those initial numbers aren't usually very accurate, but they aren't very good relative to the hype.

It's pretty much bullshit since kids haven't even got out of school yet and it's only 3:20 here. If anything this only means it will go up more. $70M+ IS happening.

This will be another "Fast and Furious made $20m on OD." You all just WATCH.

Variety now chiming in:

"The Avengers" on track for $65 million Friday, $160 million weekend.

It's probably Disney that is releasing this and they're lowballing it, because $160m makes absolutely 0 sense. If it does $65m after $18.7 on midnights, it was just as frontloaded as THG and its headed towards the high 140s.

There is NO way it will end up as frontloaded as THG. They both have completely different fanbases and this movie doesn't have nearly the same amount of fan frenzy craziness as the HP or Twilight movies. Either way it's way too early to tell.

Not surprised. The MTC/RS rule is a pretty accurate one. People on this website just choose to ignore it when fanboy movies are being released.

It actually does sound like it's ahead of TDK. If that's true than $75M+ is looking REALLY good. The key thing to remember is that TDK came out in the summer, so TA shouldn't be nearly as frontloaded. It should easily catch THG and TDK's numbers with the late evening showings if it continues to play anything like SM3.

Actually, the rule is not going to work because The Avengers will make more than MTC regardless. There is no way it makes less than 153 million for the OW.

65 million Friday puts it at a min of 150 million...

You know, it actually could have done decent if it had been advertised and released wide. It was just dumped into 103 theaters. If Lionsgate had released it wide the trailer would have shown with The Hunger Games, which would have been great exposure for it.

It isn't even playing in NYC.
