 Summer Horror
So, this year, we're missing out "Summer 'EVENT' Horror".
2004 we had THE VILLAGE and ALIEN VS PREDATOR
2003 we had FREDDY VS JASON
2002 we had SIGNS
2001 we had THE OTHERS
In 2005, Here are the candidates:
House of Wax. May 6th.
High Tension. June 3rd.
Dark Water. July 8th.
The Devils Rejects. July 22nd.
Doom. August 5th.
The Skeleton Key. August 12th.
Red- Eye. August 19th.
The Cave. August 19th.
Cry Wold. August 26th.
So What are your predictions for 2005's Summer Horror Batch?

My Rough Predictions:
House of Wax. May 6th. - $14M/$35M
High Tension. June 3rd. $6M/$17M
Dark Water. July 8th. $20M/$57M
The Devils Rejects. July 22nd. $6M/$13M
Doom. August 5th. $24M/$54M
The Skeleton Key. August 12th. $16M/$48M
Red- Eye. August 19th. $13M/$32M
The Cave. August 19th. $11M/$30M
Cry Wold. August 26th. $4M/$10M
I don't see alot of big hits here. Most around $30M hits.
However, HOUSE OF WAX, DARK WATER, DOOM, SKELETON KEY and RED-EYE could all surprise.

In 2005, Here are the candidates:
House of Wax. May 6th.- This one could suprise, depending on how well Kingdom Of Heaven does High Tension. June 3rd.- Not hit material Dark Water. July 8th.- Eaten alive by Fantastic Four The Devils Rejects. July 22nd.- Eaten alive by The Island Doom. August 5th.- This is the one I think will be a hit, I dunno about legs but I think a 40 mil opening is in store The Skeleton Key. August 12th.- bleh Red- Eye. August 19th.- looks good, but the 19th has a lot of movies being released The Cave. August 19th.- exactly the same situation as Red Eye, well except the good part Cry Wold. August 26th.- don't know enough about this one
So What are your predictions for 2005's Summer Horror Batch?

The Devil's Rejects is gonna do really good. Close to $20M opening weekend. House of Wax will do the same. Not sure about the rest.

If The House of a 1000 Dead Corpses didn't do well, then I can't very well see Devils Reject being any better.. It's a straight to DVD Movie at best..

I have heard of none of these with the exception of High Tension (Haute Tension) which I saw last year.
What a creepy, disgusting, disturbing, real life like horror slasher film. This movie stayed with me because the first half was very realistic to me. I mean stuff that could very well happen. Not that that's good. I was quite disturbed for a few days. Anyone who is looking for the violence of 80's horror films, this is worse. Though they did cut this down to get an R rating (I saw uncut), so I have no idea how much will be butchered (Pun, no pun. I dont care).
I wasn't really scared, but I was disturbed. Like watching a story you would hear on the news (First half) in live action. The ending on first sight appears to be kind of dumb and contrived. But after thinking about it awhile and the fact this movie was made in another country with a different culture, it actually isnt half bad. On the other hand, at times I forgot this wasn't made in the US. At times it seems like an older US Horror film to me.
This movie is too realistic and violent. I don't see this hiting the mainstream who think that movies like The Ring 2 or I Know what you Did Last Summer are terrifying. This is not a teeniebopper/mainstream film. If this was to break out, I would be shocked. Not because it's a bad movie, but because of it's tone. It is certainly one of the better done horror films. It is actually horror unlike many others labeled as such. It is better than most US Horror Films released lately (Not that it's hard to accomplish) or even over many years (Dont get me wrong. Still disturbed). People dont seem to like realistic horror movies of this real life like tone though. I would compare this to something like Henry (Which I remember being F-ed, but I haven't seen it in many years and really wouldnt seek it out).
With the exception of Doom (Which has problems which are always a bad sign), I dont know what any of these others movies are even about yet.
I don't think any of them will hit like the ones from the last 4 years.
Were Alien vs Predator and The Village even Horror? They were more like a Made for Tv movie on the Sci Fi Channel and some kind of strange Mystery.

Too realistic and too violent?? WTF??? I can't believe how some of you go on about this movie HIGH TENSION as though it's the most gruesome movie in history.. It looks so damn generic and so repetitive of movies like TCM or Friday the 13th with a guy chasing some chick through thwe woods with a chainsaw, that it makes me wonder if you've ever watched any of these horror movies before?? It doesn't even look scary.. I suppose to each is own though, but it looks more like a direct to DVD Horror movie than anything..

HIGH TENSION deserves $100M. But it of course wont happen.
The man chasing the woman through the woods with a chainsaw scene will kick your ass when you realise how misunderstood and naive you really are about this film. Trust me that scene is not how it seems.
High Tension is the most UNIQUE horror movie in YEARS. And the most Intense.
I'm sick of saying how amazing and brutal it really is but ugh! It's gotta be done.
Okay, it might be too intense and disturbing for the audience who think all these hollywood remakes (TCM,AMITYVILLE,DAWN) are THE most terrifying movies EVER made.
But compared to HIGH TENSION, they are watered down, aimed at box office success, dry runs.

HOUSE OF WAX should do quite good. MTV has that show on and I'm sure that's making kids want to see the film. While I haven't seen the trailer attached to anything yet, I'm sure they're showing it on some screens.
HIGH TENSION, no matter how much I adore the movie, I don't see it doing amazing or anything. I'm expecting a little better numbers then OPEN WATER but for a movie like it, I guess that is really good. It should end with around $35 million.
DARK WATER ... I doubt it'll do good. I think people are starting to get tired of these movies, even THE RING TWO didn't do very great. Expect some low numbers for this one. BRING THE END TO PG-13 GHOST MOVIES!!!
THE DEVIL'S REJECTS will do great! HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES did good in theaters considering it wasn't really in many theaters. I know a lot of people that really love it, it really found an audience on DVD. Then there will be people that don't even know it's a CORPSES sequel. Believe me, this one will be bringing in the big bucks.
DOOM, I'm pretty sure they're going to be changing this release date. For some reason I think they're going to move it until January but I hope not. It sounds quite good. It should do alright but I believe it's going to be R, so that might hurt it a little.
THE SKELETON KEY, like I said, people are definetely getting tired of these kinds of movies. This one should perform better then DARK WATER but I doubt it'll be by much.
RED-EYE should do better than CURSED. Rachel McAdams is becoming a crowd pleasing actress and she's only released three movies. I think it'll perform like IDENTITY, I can't see it doing better than that.
THE CAVE I really want to see. It looked like a really fun flick. Why did they move this? Oh yeah ... SAHARA I would've totally seen it opening night. It should do alright, probably ANACONDA numbers. I never thought it would do very good, I just think it looks like a really fun movie.
CRY WOLD ... no clue what it is.

DARK WATER ... I don't see it making very much money. I don't see DOOM making much money either.

Is this like the first May where you have tonnes of films trying to compete? I mean its the 2nd weekend of Hitch hiker and xXx2 and the first weekend for Kingsom of Heaven. House of Wax is out. I have a feeling that house of wax will end up suffering.HIGH TENSION, no matter how much I adore the movie, I don't see it doing amazing or anything. Hmmm, Yeah....House of Wax could suffer due to competition.
I still think it can open over $10M.

but House of Wax is also the only horror film released in that time period. Amity's third weekend sure as hell isn't gonna hurt it.

BKB,
Please stop condeming movies you have never seen. The advertising looks like a Friday the 13th? Actually, they are advertising this movie worse than one of the older F13's. The advertising for the Friday the 13th series in the early-mid 80's was done well.
This advertising stinks. Also, the movie is completely different from what the advertising would suggest. The advertising is so off from what the movie is even about. I assume they are trying to cater to the teeniebopper group yet again.
Since when has the Friday series been anything but ridiculous since 1984? Everything since has been over the top camp. Walking zombies, Psychics, Jason swimming to Manhatten and being stabbed by Magic Daggers. Not to mention zooming off to Space and fighting Big Mouth Freddy Krueger. Come on. Let's get serious. None of this is horror. It's highly over the top camp. Not horror.
Freddy fighting Dork Dream wizards, turning a girl into a cockroach, and playing Video Games? Come on. Some of this might be entertaining or just plain dumb. But, it's certainly not scary or in any way horror.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Well, the first wasn't all that scary to me. Just annoying with all that yelling. Number 2 was a camp comedy. The 3rd was just weak. And the 4th was one of the worst movies ever made. The remake was just boring and not needed.
Also, I didn't say I was scared. I said I was disturbed. The movie was gross.
This is a horror movie. It fits the definition. Unlike the vast majority of US Horror films released in the last 15-20 years. Watching Horror from different countires over the last couple years makes me realize how really incredibly weak US Horror has been.

House of Wax might do good, it looks like a total TCM rip off, so that could be either good or bad for it.
