Great read and quite a different tone than your Sin City piece (this is much more fanboyish).
I agree on all the positives. Hell, I dropped a couple hundred over the weekend on Sith merchandise along with the other uber-nerds so there's no convincing me this film will be anything other than massive and record breaking.
One thing Mav, there are several grammatical errors in the piece. I know there was a rush to get it up on the site but you might want to have an editor look it over if possible.
Good work =D>

Good article. I do disagree with you on one point:
Quote: I predict that "Star Wars EP III: Revenge of the Sith" will be the highest grossing movie of the year, with a 4-day opening of $125 million, if Mr. Lucas does indeed play the frontloading game, with a final gross around $350 million.
I'm pretty much with you on the numbers (I'm thinking 125/340), but I expect it to open in around 3500 theaters. If it opens in 4000+, which I doubt will happen, I could see it making up to $140 million in its first four days. The effect on the total gross would probably be smaller, though.

Thanks, guys! I counted a few typos, but it's best that I don't try to edit myself. Don't sweat it , bABA and neostorm.

You guys are working from the first draft, as it's changed slightly from the one published.

mav you know me ... i think theres just one thing i disagree with in this whole article .. that you gave very little weight to the fact that AOTC and TPM were not well received .. ye syou mentioned them but almost dismissed them : )
Other than that, i agree with just about everything else.

No, that was a first draft, and you can see that I was lashing out at anti fanboys a little. I decided against that, and didn't say anything harsh about them in the published one.

I'm going to have to point out every instance in which I mentioned the reception that some had to those movies, aren't I?

Good and most of all, well-written analysis. My only problem is that you have only positive effects on there which make it seem as the next $400+ million grosser. I think almost every single movie has negatve aspects about them, Would have been nice if you mentioned them.
Other than that, I like it.

Thanks, Lecter!
Is there a negative that I didn't mention? I mentioned a few potential problems that could mean bad things. Other than those, I don't see any, and how much negative can be said about a film that's going to gross as much as this one will?

I honestly don't think there's gonna be anything negative about this movie and if any critic or fan rips this movie a new ass, it's because they had there minds made up to do so ahead of time before it came out.. I mean, I speed read the ROTS Novel at Border's tonight, plus gawked at the Artwork for this movie and from everything I read and seen, I just cannot imagine for the life of me how anyone will have a beef over this and if they do?? Like I said, it's because they choose to go against the grain on it just to be different.. I mean this movie REALLY does answer EVERYTHING and looks so Old Trilogy looking that, well, I just can't imagine anyone really having a problem with this.. I just can't... I did predict before that I thought this would gross between 330-350 Million, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to go all out now after seeing this and reading it and say my prediction as of now will be:
4 Day weekend: 140 Million
Overall Domestic: 375-400 Million(Give or take).. It really does look THAT good..

Yes, but there is no single paragraph that ends with "Box-Office Effect: negative/slightly negative."

Probably because there is no such thing as a negative when the box office is at this level. How ridiculous would I look if I was calling the box office effect negative or slightly negative when we are talking about these kinds of dollars? Something like Fantastic Four will get a few of those, as did Sin City, but it's all postive with these kinds of numbers. Slightly negative because it doesn't make 400 million? You have to keep perspective here. It's like all those people who claim Hulk "bombed" and Attack of the Clones was a box office disappointment. People have a bad habbit of overpredicting movies and then blaming the movies when they are wrong.

I think one clear negative is that the deal Lucas has with FOX causes the studio not to run many TV advertisments. For AOTC, the marketing on TV was nothing compared to most blockbusters. Lucas just pays them their fee, and doesn't give them any incentive to spend a lot of money promoting it.

i read it last night, and there is no Negative effect on this. i'm not too surprised, because i've read some magazines analysis about ep 3 as well and they also predict without any negative effect on this so Ep.3 should be easily become the top movie of summer 2005.

Good luck.. Your saying it won't even make 300 Million, yet this movie will easily make 200 Million by day 10 and do so in May or the beginning of June.. Are you saying that this movie only has about less than 100 Million left to make in it's tank with an entire summer ahead of it?? It's not fanboy predicting.. It's accurate predicting on a movie that we should've seen back in 1999 and didn't..

Oh yes, it won't top $300 million despite the fact this is one of the most hyped movies ever and even the last 2 have topped $300 million, yet you are saying this won't. Lots of people like the prequels, check IMDB rating for Attack of the Clones - a 7, and check it for The Phantom Menace and you have a 6.4 which is OK and shows it is not as hated as you may think. They are "FRESH" on rottentomatoes.com and they rate a B to B- on the Box Office Mojo rating scale and Lee's Movie Information. People are learning to understand the brilliance of the Prequel Trilogy and in no time will accept it.
