Don't underestimate Sahara guys. It has a lot of wide appeal to different audiences like National Treasure (That would've made 40-45 million opening weekend if it weren't for all the competition imo), and so far the reviews are fantastic. I also think Fever Pitch will be a decent hit, but nothing huge since this will be the third movie in three weeks to open that's catering to a more female audience. However, since this isn't a sequel/spin off it might do a bit better thanks to looking fresher and having more male appeal and good WOM. As for Sin City, I'm conflicted. Miramax's movies often tend to have good holds (just look at Hostage, it's going to finish with a 3.8 multiplier! ), and it does have good WOM, so I think it might drop just under 50% to about 15 million, a solid third.
1. Sahara 25 million
2. Fever Pitch 16 million
3. Sin City 15 million

Sahara I think people are taking its plot to seriously, it could be a fun movie.

Sahara wont do more then 17mil, it has no hype, i've heard nothing good anticipation wise for this movie, it has no real leading draw, and its trailer is not appealing at all. This wont be the next National Treasure by any means, it wont even be the next Hidalgo, its just gonna be a bomb. Maybe im gonna be wrong, National Treasure was a surprise hit, this could be to, but as of right now theres no indication of that happening.
Sahara - 16.4
Sin City - 15.5
Fever Pitch - 15.3

There are TV spots all over the place, in my school we're talking about it, and the reaction to the trailer is quite good when it's shown in theaters, at least here. I'm sure it'll be big, and lets not forget about the kickass Superbowl TV spot.

People are really underestimating SAHARA ... even if it doesn't do as good as I think it will, it should do better then FEVER PITCH, I've seen almost no TV spots and haven't even seen a trailer for it.

Sahara - 25m
Fever Pitch - 15m
Sin City - 13m (-57%)
Beauty Shop - 7.2m (-46%)
I agree with MovieDude and Movies35 on Sahara. The TV spots have been effective and prevelent, and this appeals to nearly all demographics. I don't see how this can do less then 20m opening weekend.

People always underestimate the safari type adventure movies. Last year people underpredicted Hildalgo and it turned out to have wonderful legs despite opening against Starsky and Hutch and then we have National Treasure which people thought SpongeBob would beat by a 15-20 million margin

hehe, really? Going into the weekend, most people were predicting 10-15m. I was one of the few predicting over 15m (MovieDude too BTW).

Anyways, Sahara wont do better then Hidalgo, it might have a chance though, since it really doesnt have any direct competition.

Haha, yep, another one of those awesome tag team predictions of ours that was dead on like The Grudge. This is getting far better WOM and reviews then Hidalgo did too though. Reviews have been really damn good, and test screenings have been wildly positive.

As someone put on BOM Sahara could be a surprise Spring hit, or it can be the biggest flop since Alone in the Dark!

Sahara reminds me too much of Timeline. It has a no-name cast, and lately these desert-themed movies haven't been a success. Hidalgo was a huge failure in my opinon, I expected so much more. Then there's Flight of the Phoenix, which opened to around 5 million and good marketing. After the Sunset had a deserty type background, it didn't do well either. These aren't great comparisons, but they're still pretty close.
National Treasure opened around Thanksgiving and *only* got 35 million. It was incredible for that movie, but it would have opened to $28-31 in this time frame. Sahara looks like crap compared to it.
This is why I'm saying Sahara won't open to over 10 million.
