 Predict April Movies Box Office
I saw an April thread, but haven't really seen a specific one for predicting, this can be locked if there is though. But how do you guys think movies this month will do? I'd guess pretty well, there's tons of appealing stuff coming out. Here's a basic calendar:
March 30th (Wednesday):
Beauty Shop
April 1st:
Sin City
April 8th:
Fever Pitch
Sahara
April 15th:
The Amityville Horror
April 22nd:
King's Ransom
Kung-Fu Hustle (Expands into wide release)
The Interpreter
A Lot Like Love
April 29th:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
xXx: State of the Union
For now, I'm going with
April 1st:
Beauty Shop: 16/20/60
Sin City: 33/90
April 8th:
Sahara: 24/80
Fever Pitch: 16/55
April 15th:
The Amityville Horror: 28/66
April 22nd:
King's Ransom (If in 1200+ theaters): 7/19
Kung-Fu Hustle: Unsure of opening, have to wait to see how's it released
The Interpreter: 21/68
A Lot Like Love: 13/45
April 29th:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: 25/70
xXx: State of the Union: 48/110
Aka the biggest movies would be:
1. xXx: State of the Union 110 million
2. Sin City 90 million
3. Sahara 80 million
4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 70 million
5. The Interpreter 68 million
6. The Amityville Horror 66 million (Note: 4-6 could easily switch around)
7. Beauty Shop 60 million
8. Kung-Fu Hustle 55 million (I'd estimate that at the moment, it could make 20 million or it could make 120+ million)
9. Fever Pitch 55 million
10. A Lot Like Love 45 million
* King's Ransom 19 million

All of you are predicting FAR too low for The Amityville Horror and have no idea how big this will be for an R-Rated Horror movie..

April 1st:
Sin City - Opening: $21M, Total: $65M
April 8th:
Fever Pitch - Opening: $17.3M, Total: $49.6M
Sahara - Opening: $16.7M, Total: $51.4M

April 22nd:

The Interpreter - Opening: $18.5M, Total: $65.8M
A Lot Like Love - Opening: $13.2M, Total: $37.8M
April 29th:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Opening: $26M, Total: $78.6M
xXx: State of the Union - Opening: $26.8M, Total: $65.9M
I dont see State of the Union doing to good, the reception its getting so far is pretty crappy, the trailer was pretty damn boring. It has a buzz factor of 2.96 at movies.com http://movies.go.com/moviesdynamic/movi ... union_2004 which is bad. Im hearing the budget is over 100mil ( 118mil to be exact ) so I say Sony has a bomb on their hands. Hell imo Amityville has a better chance of 100mil then State of the Union, atleast that has some pretty damn good buzz.

118 million? I heard that it was 75 million, just like the first xXx. Why would this one cost more, especially without Vin?

It's an action-packed trailer, so I don't know how you considered it boring. Plus, the movie appeals more to the urban crowd this time around with Ice Cube as the lead (and we all know, the man can open movies decently). It's kicking off the summer, so I expect a minimum of $30M on opening weekend.

It wont hold well, especially if it attracts more of the urban crowd. Will see how marketing goes for it. It looks boring in the sense theres nothing special about it, it's as generic as it gets.

I'd make a bet with anyone that XXX2 isnt opening higher then Bad Boys 2 or XXX. No matter of the rating, Bad Boys 2 looked much more appealing and it had one of the biggest draws in the industry.

I won't take that bet, because I'm pretty sure it won't open any higher than Bad Boys 2. I'm predicting around or right under it. But, remember, movies that open the summer usually do good because people are seeking a good action blockbuster. That's kind of why Van Helsing opened to $51M.

That had some huge marketing and had no competition opening week. XXX2 has to worry about Hitchhiker, will see which movie ends up with more hype and which has the better marketing scheme.

Well Sony is giving this a 45 million ad campaign, so don't underestimate it either. I've ALREADY seen TV ads!

I don't see Hitchhiker as any possible threat to XXX2. If any movie is being overpredicted (or will be), it's going to be Hitchhiker. The action fans and urban crowd will most likely NOT see Hitchiker that weekend. Two movies can coincide and both do well.

I'll look around, but I remember reading this article online about marketing and how Sony had spent 40-50 million on all it's big action movies in the summer marketing wise, 35 million on all the Revolution Adam Sandler movies and how they planned on spending just as much on the second xXx as the first XXX and even more for Stealth.

On XXX, I think 100 would be a better # to have as the over / under.

haha, I miswrote it, meant to be spend just as much as they did on the FIRST XXX. So that might even be 50 million.

I just saw a TV spot for XXX2, let me tell you, from what I saw there is no way this could have a budget over 100mil, the effects are craptacular. There was this train sequence, and the train looked like something from a videogame, horrible CGI.

Perhaps it's being brought to us by the creators of Son Of The Mask?
