Well beyond the big pictures (Hitchhiker's, Episode III, Kingdom, Worlds, Begins, Potter, Kong, Narnia, etc.)...
The Intepreter - April 22nd. Considering that Penn and Kidman and Sydney Pollack aren't box office draws these days, this project looks particulary ripe to be a good little thriller. Recent reviews have shown that it has no Oscar potential, so maybe they will push this out and take the week before Hitchhiker's with a good old dramatic thriller.
Cinderella Man - June 1st. In the last few years, Dreamworks has proven that it can drive an adult drama to substantial numbers with Road to Perdition, Seabiscuit, and Collateral. I wouldn't bet against them here.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose - September 9th. Return of the thinking man's horror movies! Exorcism should be able to provide the more geniune scares of something like Exorcist in a more grounded reality. It has a great cast (Laura Linney, Tom Wilkenson, Shohreh Aghdashloo) and an interesting skew on the familiar exorcism concept. If it delivers scares and good courtroom drama, expect big things!
Elizabethtown - October 14th. The cast is amazing, and it is a Cameron Crowe film... his last three films were Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous and Jerry McGuire. This is a huge Orlando Bloom vehicle, and is expected to launch him beyond the "sword and sandle" typecast he is getting. It also stars Ms. Dunst, Sarandon, Baldwin, Biel... hmmm
Jarhead - November 11th. Too soon to revisit the gulf war? I'm not so sure. While The New World will probably be great with Terrence Malick at the helm, I'm not comfortable predicting him to deliver a film which is particularly functional with the vast audience. Jardhead though... Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, American Beauty) has a cast (Gyllenhall, Foxx and Sarsgaard) and a topical concept.
Walk the Line - November 18th. I think this is going to be huge with the American public. Maybe not like Ray was but eh... I think this (along with Elisabethtown) will finally launch Witherspoon into a popular career in more serious motion pictures, something that has evaded her up to this point.
