Yep. He probably wears that as a badge of honor. His next stop may be in porno movies.
The American Indian girl in the movie is beautiful.

This film will not perform well in theatres even if it is good. Or, to put it mildly, the better it is, the less well it will perform in the box office. It never ceases to amaze me how people refuse to look at anything they consider educational programming. So if New World is some cheesy bad love story or an action flick like Last of the Mohicans, it'll do just fine. The more cerebral and historically critical it gets from there, the less people will be likely to see it. Sad but true.
Opening, 16 Million
Domestic, 45 Million
If its shocking in one way or another and is R-rated, has been touted for historical readings, etc:
Opening 13 Million
Domestic, 40 Million
I have yet to see what this movie will be. I started a thread in cinemania about it after seeing the trailer and being outraged. Some posters pointed out some information I hadn't picked up on from the trailer, that leads me to believe it might be a little smarter than I expected. So I have no idea what this movie will be like.

Guys, don't forget this opens on a Wednesday. I have no idea why, but it is. So...
Opening: 14.4 (5-day 19.1)
Total: 46.2 (3.21)
Add about $10M if it hits big at the oscars.

BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! The epics like Gladiator and Braveheart which were in my favorite list seems to be your most hated ones too. You Dolce deserve to have your avatar posted for eternity for your poor choice in epics

Terrence Malick doesn't make enough movies to be well-known to the general public. The Thin Red Line was released closer to Oscar and had a very good cast with a lot of buzz. It had a $7,436 average in 1,528 theaters when it went wide on Jan 15th of 1999. Depending on The New World's release pattern, I think the first wide weekend should gather similar numbers. I don't see it passing 50M in overall gross unless it won Best Picture.

After seeing Alexander, I think myself and the general public want nothing to do with any more of Colin's "Epic" movies. My brain will forever be haunted of the images of Colin and Jared Leto getting it on.

'The New World' has its positives and negatives, just like most every film. Let's start with the negatory side of the equation.
Negatives:
- Farrell may not be much of draw when he isn't paired with another bigger star (Pacino in 'The Recruit')
- People may be tired of historical epics at this point. It might not be such a bad idea if Hollywood strays from making them for a while before resurrecting them again down the road, kind of how 'Gladiator' ushered in this new wave.
- Malick isn't exactly known for making "commercial" films. His films polarize audiences with their meandering pace contrasted with the natural beauty his films usually contain. He's perhaps one of the best directors as far as visuals are concerned.
- New Line isn't likely to risk too much with the film given how epics have been faring as of late. Thus, they will likely not give it too large of a theatre count/ad campaign.
Positives:
+ The story is very familiar to anyone over a certain age as it has been taught in American History for ages now. This could help very much because people tend to see what they already have a passing familiarity with over something new and foreign.
+ Farrell may still be a draw. Maybe Alexander was a fluke?
+ Reviews are likely to be quite positive as critics usually go ga-ga over Malick's films
+ Budget is unusually small for a historical epic at only 30 million. Making a profit should almost be guaranteed with such a miniscule budget
+ Christian Bale is more well-known post Batman which may bring in those impressed with his performance in the aforestated film

I wasn't very impressed with the first trailer. I hope we get something else, soon.

It sucks that theyre advertising this EXACTLY like Alexander, and are showcasing Farrell so much in the trailers. Wrong move on the ads...but I admit, this looks WAY BETTER then Alexander
Opening: 25 million--Likely
30 Million--If Ads pick up
33 Million--Ads pick up+critical fave
Total: 80 Million--likely
140--Being a Critical fave
145--Oscar worthy.
