Perhaps a gimmicky title would suit this franchise.

Eli Roth's Death Wish reboot has been granted a new date on March 2, 2018, moving from November 22.

It's going to be an interesting duel of power on the core franchise.

Uni is going to have to throw Diesel a bone on F9 or 10, which should scare anyone who digs the series. He pushed hard to direct F8 himself, after all.... Not that I think they'll let him direct one, but maybe they give him 30m to go shoot another fucking Riddick movie or something.

I would not mind that at all. If he kept churning out Riddick movies, and not this Fast bullshit, I'd probably be a Mark fan.

Totally depends. If Riddick was to fight The Scorpion King, instead of just being Riddick alone on a barren planet, then it would do well. Just a joke about Dwayne obviously. But the next one just needs more of a hook. A foe that is on his level and not a team of merc pricks. The stakes just need to be higher. Maybe a war? A war always excites people when a franchise has nowhere else to go.

Riddick sucked, but if they bring back Karl Urban and finally go to the Underverse I'd be totally into it.

Death Wish got moved? Damn that's stupid, I was looking forward to watching that in November.

Also I think at this point Universal cares little about the domestic haul of F&F films. The F&F franchise has become an absolute box office monster overseas. F&F 9 could make diddly squat domestically, and it will still be a massive financial success due to the huge overseas total it will get.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson are still going at each other on social media re: the F&F spinoff. It seemed like Johnson was taking the high road and not responding but now he's calling Tyrese a whining puppy on Instagram.

F&F will eventually come down in OS markets as well. I believe 9th will come down and then they will hit a series high with 10th.

I wonder how much of it is staged.

We’re right to be suspicious, I just don’t know what they’d have to gain. The movie is already out of theaters, it’s been on video for a couple of months and the next one doesn’t open for a couple of years.

All this feud is doing is making the multimillionaire cast look like a bunch of spoiled crybabies. Definitely no upside reputation-wise; especially Johnson who should know better but seems to love the drama.

Well, Dwayne loves it because it's the sort of thing he did in his wrestling days, I guess. And it doesn't hurt to stir up some shit for the next one(s) that will obviously be finding it harder and harder to get people excited. But yeah, it does seem a bit too far-fetched for these two guys to come up with such a plan.

I have a friend who worked on multiple F&F movies and the stuff with Diesel not getting along with anyone is true, definitely not part of the act.

Absolutely. Johnson is setting himself up to be the future of the franchise (which is funny considering he's already made four of these things) whereas the core cast's adventures are winding down.

For Universal, it's means working with a team player vs. a cast (Diesel primarily, but also Rodriguez, Gibson) who are a constant headache for the studio, directors and other actors. While I'm sure they look forward to the 2 billion FF9/10 will make them, they're probably really excited to have a new cast of hungry, emotionally-stable 20-somethings in the spotlight.

Then in 10-15 years the franchise will be dead and they'll have to bring Diesel back in a mentor role to make Creed with muscle cars.

Are you including Clint Eastwood's son in that?

He didn't seem to make much of an impression in F8, but I'd expect he'll continue on as "bland, attractive white guy" in Paul Walker's place for at least the next two.

Disney cancelled Gigantic. Looked like a hit on paper, but I guess it wasn't working out.

Gambit starring Channing Tatum and directed by Gore Verbinski will open February 14, 2019.

Gore Verbinski isn't a household name like producers seem to want him to be. And it's not for lack of trying. Every film he makes they make a big deal about letting people know it's from "Visionary Director Gore Verbinski" (or some other exaggerated title), and I bet most people don't have the foggiest who the hell he is. He hasn't had that huge word-of-mouth hit or successive hits yet that a director needs in order to become a household name. He directed the first three Pirates films, but people just see them as "made by Disney". Nobody cares about the director of franchise films like that, unless it's Michael Bay or The Wachowski Brothers. And then he made The Lone Ranger, which flopped, and was seen more as a Johnny Depp vehicle (another reason why nobody cared about Verbinski directing Pirates), and then A Cure for Wellness which also flopped. He seems to be in that stage in his career when his name SHOULD mean something, and his choices prove that, but his name means diddley-squat. He's kind of like Guillermo Del Toro in that regard. Nobody cares about the films they make, but there is an underlying notion that we should, and studios are trying to make them happen.

Roman J. Israel, Esq. will be Denzel's first flop in ten years. Nobody is going to care about it, and I don't see Oscar hype for it this time.

No buzz indeed, and it has a decent budget too, but still at 35m I'd say this film is getting over 50m domestic and 100m total worldwide. Could we speak of a flop then?
