 Re: Production Budgets Mess at that King Arthur budget. A 'Robin Hood' esque performance was probably the ceiling anyway, and they give it $175m?! I'm not surprised though, I used to work for WB marketing and there are some SERIOUS issues there.
I wonder how much Alien costs. Prometheus looked more expensive than its $130m budget.

Re: Production Budgets It's got to be the biggest flop of the year. Though non-US markets will obviously cushion the blow for Warner Bros.

Re: Production Budgets Both movies have high budget. Snatched wasn't even marketed a few weeks back and not sure why it costs so much.
KA was sure to have this high budget but its surely not getting that money back a definite contender for biggest money-loser of the year.

Re: Production Budgets $42m is only huge for Snatched in hindsight. But you couldn't blame Fox for thinking it would be another (albeit bite-size version of) Bad Moms or Trainwreck. Point is that there is an audience for these females-being-bad movies, and so $42m ain't much to try and make it a good film.

Re: Production Budgets Agree its big number only in the hindsight but these kind of comedies generally cost $20m-$25m and Snatched doesn't look expensive compared to rest of summer comedy fares.

Re: Production Budgets Comparing it to Alice 2 doesn't work that well because Pirates 5 is probably going to make more over the 4 Day Memorial Day weekend than Alice did total, domestically at least. Nobody asked for Alice 2. AiW was such a hit mainly because it was the first big 3D movie after Avatar. That's why there was such a dramatic dropoff for Alice 2. And while nobody asked for Pirates 5 either and will also drop off from the last, it's based on a series with a more solid fanbase and will very likely be profitable WW even with a 230M production.

Re: Production Budgets While I do think that Pirate should do well in OS markets I would not be guaranteed on the OS success yet. Alice was also HUGE in OS markets but the drop was HUGE, plus from what I remember last Pirates also benefited from the 3D boom so it could see a big drop again. I am not saying its guaranteed to fail but it could happen so they could have probably have a tighter budget.

Its not Orlando Bloom or even Depp's property have increased beside this series. Knightley I feel have entered more in mainstream but she is most likely for a cameo here. If they want they could still make a good Pirates movie with a tighter budget and I am not saying $150m here but another $50m lesser for $180m should have been great. $180m is not a small budget by any means.

They should have got this one down to $150m. They shouldn't be paying Depp anything by now - he's proven to not be a draw. And the sets and boats are already all built. Re: Production Budgets That is indeed decent but AC is cheap to look at throughout, plus Prometheus which looked way more expensive was also made for a decent $130m. I don't see Fox giving huge budget for Covenant after the last one which did great but didn't light up the BO.

The Mummy looks so cheap that this $125m budget looks expensive for it than it should for such a visual-effects driven movie. Atleast its cheaper than the debacle of Mummy 3.
