I'm surprised. It didn't really look like this movie had any material worth an R rating..
Opening: $13 million
Total: $30 million

The "R" rating should help bring out more hard-core horror fans. My predictions:
Opening: $19 million
Second Weekend: $8.55 million (-55%)
Domestic Total: $55 million

I'm not sure if hardcore horror fans would even be interested in something like this.

Yes, "R" rating should help bring out more hard-core horror fans
However, today, horror movies always appeal greatly to teens and young adults.
With the two R rating movies, many teens and young adults, who aren't hard-core horror fans, would prefer to see ALONE IN THE DARK. (Many audience don't know how bad Uwe Boll is).

I don't know about that. Its a Lion's Gate film, which means it will likely have a smaller theater count. The trailer also lacks the sort of brooding-horror feel that Hide and Seek has.
I know there have been other films similar to Hide and Seek, but I can't think of any at the moment. The Sixth Sense comes to mind, but this will certainly be nowhere near the acclaim that film received.

Godsend could have done better had it been released when cloning was still a big issue.

Yikes. How the hell is this R? Either way, I honestly would not be surprised if Alone in the Dark beats it. So far the marketing has been far stronger, and H&S's appeal will be extremely limited. In my poll which 40 people have taken, only 2 said they wanted to see Hide and Seek the most for the month, whereas 18 said Coach Carter, and even 5 chose Alone in the Dark.

A few notes:
Both Hide and Seek and Alone in the Dark will be opening on the same weekend, which is both the third weekend of White Noise (which should still be in the top 10 if not the top 5) and one week before Boogeyman. The later of these films will likely affect both AitD and H&S second weekends as well as its own opening weekend.
My prediction is that Hide and Seek will open far on top of Alone in the Dark for several weekend. It should play well to an older demographic, compared to the obviously teen-oriented AitD. Also, AitD is directed by Uwe Boll, which instantly means that it is going to be trashed by critics, a fate that H&S will also likely suffer but to a lesser degree.
As far as anticipation/trailers go, AitD has a much less believable trailer, and appears to be more of a videogame then a horror film, while H&S looks to be the better of the two films. AitD has the likes of Christian Slater and other headliners, while H&S has the obviously greater starpower of Robert DeNiro and Dakota Fanning. The only problem with that is it doesn't always guarantee success, such as last year's Godsend which also featured Robert DeNiro along with Greg Kinnear.
Considering all this though, my predictions are:
Friday -- 1/28/2005
Hide and Seek -- $6,500,000
Alone in the Dark -- $3,000,000
Saturday -- 1/29/2005
Hide and Seek -- $7,000,000 (+7.5%)
Alone in the Dark -- $2,550,000 (-15%)
Sunday -- 1/30/2005
Hide and Seek -- $3,850,000 (-45%)
Alone in the Dark -- $1,220,000 (-52%)
Weekend Totals --
Hide and Seek -- $17,350,000
Alone in the Dark -- $6,770,000
Weekend of: 2/4/2005
Boogeyman -- $17.75 million
Hide and Seek -- $8.15 (-53%)
Alone in the Dark --$2.70 (-60%)

I'm less and less confident in Alone in the Dark, especially with the horror overload.

You noticed my prediction. After House of the Dead, I really don't expect much from the film. I may have over predicted Hide and Seek though, my low end prediction is $13 million opening, with my high end being just about what I posted at around $21 million.
I think Boogeyman and Alone in the Dark are going to just about cancel each other out. Boogeyman could do well opening weekend, similar to Darkness Falls (or higher as in my prediction), but beyond that, I expect drops of 60-65%.

White Noises' fourth weekend. It won't be past 3 million. More like 2.
And guys, don't underestimate Boogeyman. Yes, the trailer sucked, but just look at the TV spots which are taking nods to the INFINITELY scarier international trailer. If they start channeling that, it could do 15/40, or maybe even more.

I think the prediction of Alone in the Dark can be higher
As I said before, many teens and young adults don't know how bad Uwe Boll is. The even don't like to read review. In recent years, many horror movies get horrible reviews and great Box Office results.
House of the Dead has zero star powers, horrible reviews and minimal promotion from a so-so distributor, but it still enjoyed $5 million opening weekend.
Now, Alone in the Dark has slight better star powers and a much better distributor. It also had a huge advertising campaign at NYC Times Square on New Year Days.

I won't see Alone in the Dark in theater, but I think that this movie would have $10 million opening weekend, may be higher.
PS: According to Uwe Boll, Alone in the Dark will open on more than 2000 screens.

That is true, though it likely won't affect Boogeyman to any degree. The public may be overwhelmed with the massive amount of horror films though (White Noise, AitD, H&S and Boogeyman) all opening within a month.

Hide and Seek - Opening: $17 million, Total: $45.9 million
Alone in the Dark - Opening: $8 million, Total: $20 million
Boogeyman - Opening: $18 million, Total: $50.4 million
Those are my current predictions. Alone in the Dark just looks too fake for people to see. Plus, the game wasn't even that popular. Hell, even House of the Dead was more popular, but the movie looked too much like a game.

Wow. I'm still having doubts about this one, I don't know if it'll be able to make more than 40 million. I'm going to see this for sure (my mother who rarely cares about movies is dying to see this) though.

White Noise is a fair distance away. As for the latter three, I agree that at least one will be DOA, but I think right now Hide and Seek has the best chance. it's the least interesting and honestly, the trailer is the worst. The people I was with LAUGHED at it. Dakota Fanning is a talented little actress, but she's not an effective serial killer.

Sheesh just realised how many horror movies we have coming out before May.
White Noise - Hit, $24,000,000+ opening weekend. Looks to pass $55M.
Hide And Seek
Alone In The Dark
Boogeyman
House of Wax
Amityville Horror
The Ring Two
Are they gonna kill each other? or prove how strong horror is right now?
I rekon
HIDE AND SEEK: $14,000,000 OW/ $36,000,000 Finish
ALONE IN THE DARK: $8,000,000 OW/ $20,000,000 finish
BOOGEYMAN: $16,000,000 OW/ $45,000,000 Finish
HOUSE OF WAX: $12,000,000 OW/ $30,000,000 Finish
AMITYVILLE HORROR: $27,000,000 OW/ $70,000,000 Finish
THE RING TWO: $48,000,000 OW/ $130,000,000 Finish
ALthough have a feeling that some will dissapoint, due to horror overload.
All we can do is wait and see i guess.

Any reason - Deniro?
Also doesn't Dakota look different and a little off / creepy with the different hair.

Well this weekends box office sucked. Are We There Yet is Number 1. Yes you read correctly.
All movies dropped pretty harsh, especially last weeks Elektra.
House of Wax has moved to the first week in June, good news for Amityville, Boogeyman and Cursed.
WHITE NOISE is at $50,000,000 this weekend. A number alot of people didn't think they would see it pass.
HIDE AND SEEK will be Number 1 next weekend, with over $15,000,000, if AWTY? can do it this weekend.
ALONE IN THE DARK actually could take some steam in a crowd of movies going stale at the box office and open in the top 5.
Maybe the top 3.
HIDE AND SEEK: $17,000,000
ALONE IN THE DARK: $6,000,000

Damn guys, I'd suggest you start worrying about this. The director's only other movie was Swimf@n, and all the reviews that I've been reading online have been trashing this.
