That would be nice crossing £90m. But is there a chance for £100m in UK ?

2. The Princess and the Frog, £2,219,769 from 460 sites. Total: £2,239,759
3. Astro Boy, £1,091,872 from 407 sites (New)
4. Invictus, £1,068,388 from 275 sites (New)
5. Sherlock Holmes, £783,681 from 397 sites. Total: £24,474,393
6. Edge Of Darkness, £768,013 from 412 sites. Total: £2,651,278

Avatar was underestimated a little. Decent opening for Princess and the Frog and with school holidays starting next weekend all the kid friendly films should hold pretty well.

Avatar is not as Family Friendly as the 2 Cartoon movies. Is there a chance for it to stay #1 next week as well? The difference between #1 and #2,#3 seems to be quite big

Hmm, nah, I think Valentine's Day wil top it.

But seriously, those are amazing legs and £100 million is still entirely possible. I'd say that £90 million is actually a lock at this point.

Strong weekend overall. Five movies above £1.5 million.

Great start for The Wolfman, a bit disappointing for Percy Jackson.

Avatar went down only 24% despite harsh competition and now stands at £77,072,663. £90 million is happening, but £100 million is very hard now. It might stall at £92-94 million.

Tim Burton's new film version of Alice in Wonderland will not be screened at Odeon cinemas in the UK, Irish Republic and Italy, the cinema chain says. The move is in response to the Disney studio's plan to reduce the period in which it can be shown only in cinemas from the standard 17 weeks.

The plan would allow Disney to release the film on DVD at the end of May. Odeon said it would "set a new benchmark, leading to a 12-week window becoming rapidly standard". Cineworld cinemas will show the movie, however, after reaching an independent agreement with the Disney studio. The Vue chain is also understood to have reached an agreement with Disney, details of which are due to be announced shortly. Odeon's decision will not affect the film's Royal premiere on Thursday, which is coincidentally set to take place at the Odeon Leicester Square in central London.

Nor will it affect its plans to show the film in Spain, Germany, Portugal and Austria - territories where Disney intends to observe the normal DVD release window.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8528820.stm

This is going to have quite a considerable effect in the UK:

Odeon - 107 sites/834 screens
Cineworld - 74 sites/758 screens
Vue - 63 sites/608 screens
National Amusements - 21 sites/274 screens
Ward Anderson - 24 sites/206 screens

Meh for Lovely Bones which I thought will do good in UK. VD actually managed to hold OK. Percy is again not doing as well Overseas (what went wrong?).

Avatar is doing amazing again. This week it made about £6M which is amazing and another display of fending off the competition. If Alice is not releasing in some of the major theaters in UK I think it can manage one or two more weeks at number 1 (of course) after the Alice opening weekend

Hmm, yeah, so £100 million isn't happening for Avatar...but still a terrific performance of course.

I wonder why http://movies.nytimes.com/pages/movies/ ... index.html isn't updating. It has always been the best source for UK box-office (since IMDB only has the Top 10).

Nice for Percy in UK it fell only 1% compared to VD's 58% and WolfMan's 67%

Kids were off school, that's why Princess and the Frog increased and Percy almost held flat.

Odeon reverses Alice in Wonderland boycott

Odeon has reversed its decision to boycott Tim Burton's new 3D film version of Alice in Wonderland following talks with Disney. The cinema chain had vowed not to show the film in the UK, Irish Republic and Italy over Disney's plans to release the film on DVD at the end of May. Earlier, Burton said Odeon's decision not to screen the film was "upsetting". "I feel terrible about it," Burton told the BBC's Breakfast programme. "To me it doesn't make anybody look good." The film-maker added that he hoped "something is going to be worked out", but had not been involved in talks, which are understood to have gone on late into the night on Wednesday.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8536195.stm

Good news for Alice's chances in the UK, but will no doubt put a dent in Avatar's final gross now that Odeon are screening it.

Though NY Times usually has the Top 50 or something. But this is better than IMDB, so...
