Eek. That REALLY sucks for HOFD.

Nice for The Merchant of Venice (that's a hefty and risky budget, though), In Good Company, Hotel Rwanda, Coach Carter, and Million Dollar Baby - all of which lead in PTA this weekend. ;)

Amazing for COACH CARTER and IN GOOD COMPANY.

Okay for RACING STRIPES.

Good for WHITE NOISE. Dissapointing for ELEKTRA.

The Polar Express WB $890,000 -57% 445 -1,562 $2,000 $160,091,000

Considering it lost 1,562 theatres, a 57% drop is astounding.

It's IMAX, which will keep it's PTA up from here on out considering less and less regular theaters are playing it.

Also, I continue to be amazed by Sideways. It has made $28M (with far more to come), despite never playing on more than 499 theatres in its run.

Indeed! :D Gotta love IMAX theatres. Over the 4-day weekend, it'll probably manage to drop less than 50%...

Damn man, I have never seen a guy who so adamantly wants everything to suceed at the box office! But I think that a number of films will, in part because of the Golden Globes.

check out the 2002 numbers  I dont think that the GG Awards will harm the films much if any thing they will help the films. Just check out the numbers from 2002 the films are along those patterns

I think that they think that the GG Awards are going to harm the movies performances but I doubt that

Absolutely shitty for Elektra. I don't see it crossing 40, and if it does it'll be just barely. The first nail in Jennifer Garner's coffin?

The Sea Inside actually has increased its PTA each week. The Chorus didn't open very impressively either. And quite disappointing for House of Flying Daggers. It won't get to 15M. Overall disappointing late year runs for the foreign films, even with all the world-class directors.

We've had quite a few internet hyped up movies performing around in the $11-$16 opening range:

Elektra
Team America
Alexander
Blade: Trinity
Sky Captain

All of these were expected to be big, or at least a lot bigger than what they opened with.

Not quite

Weekend was pretty good, dissapointing of course for Elektra - but with those reviews not shockingly surprising.
Carter did amazingly, the most bland movie of the year makes $23.6m in its first frame - a testament to the power of the MTV brand, a respected star and the by-the-numbers safety of the genre.

Good for Fockers, and excellent for In Good Company. OK for Racing Stripes.

Overall, a weekend that will be quickly forgotten. Carter will do well but i see big things for In Good Company's future. Elektra will fade fast.
