The two Lloyd Center theaters, which are a combined 18 screens, are getting 1 for In Good Company and Racing Stripes, two for Elektra and two for Carter, the latter of which gets the giant screen. Good sign methinks.

Technically, it is four screens (we are getting an extra print in the late night shows) for Electra. And you forgot to mention that we are opening Hotel Rwanda here as well.

Coach Carter is getting a slight edge over Elektra and In Good Company. In 21 movie theatres (of 26), it averaged 5.81 showtimes per theatre. Elektra averaged 5.62 spt (w00t. new word) in 21 theatres while In Good Company averaged 5.32 spt (in 19). Racing Stripes was the lowest of the openers, averaging 5 showtimes per theatre (in 20).

Of the holdovers, Meet the Fockers kept an average 5.04 spt (in 22), White Noise averaged 4.95 spt (in 22), and The Phantom averaged 3.92 (in 12).

My Current Predictions:

Coach Carter (4-day) - $25.4m
Meet the Fockers (4-day) - $21.9m
Elektra (4-day) - $20.1m
In Good Company (4-day) - $14.2m
Racing Stripes (4-day) - $13.4m
White Noise (4-day) - $13.2m

Here are more specific imformation on the openers at my theater.

Electra - 600 seater, 400 seater, and 300 seater.
Coach Carter - 175 seater (in day) moves to 600 seater (at night), 400 seater, and 300 seater.
Racing Stripes - 600 seater (in day) moves to 175 seater (at night, see a pattern), and 250 seater.
In Good Company (yes we are playing it here, movietickets made a mistake) - 250 seater.
Hotel Rwanda - 200 seater.
Appleseed (what the hell is this?) - 90 seater.
White Noise gets pushed to our 200 seater, and 175 seater.

The openers took over all the largest auditoriums. The rest have to play in 150 or below. Also, I am working mid shift Friday, so I'll keep you posted.

I read about it in the Times today, so now I know what it is. But I still think it won't do good.

So, using that with the theater counts: (obviously these aren't actuals)

Elektra - 18,006 showings
Meet the Fockers - 17,907 showings
Racing Stripes - 15,925 showings
Coach Carter - 14,664 showings
White Noise - 11,281 showings
In Good Company - 8,326 showings
The Phantom of the Opera - 3,555 showings

Interesting... I'm thinking Racing Stripes will do better than what most think, with it being the only kid movie out besides Lemony Snicket.

That's only for one day. Now you've gotta multiply that by four. And, then, if, say, the average aud. for each is 200 seats, you can do the remainder of the math to find an actual number.

Heh, perhaps I'll try it.

I've always felt that the number of showings per theatre (and the size of the theatres) makes a bigger difference on the per-theatre average than anything else. It just makes sense...the more tickets you can sell for a movie in a theatre, the more it will make...fewer showings, less tickets...smaller theatres, less tickets... that's why when people post about sold out shows it really doesn't matter so much. If a movie is only playing once between 7 and 10PM in a 200 seat theatre, it's bound to sell out.

With that in mind, I have a lot of faith in Coach Carter with the exception to the fact that it's 2 hours and 20 minutes long and in the New York theatres around here, it's only getting one print so it's going to be hard for it to make a lot of money unless it's playing in the biggest theatres rather than them going to Elektra (the "sure thing"). I still think Elektra will win out on sheer volume of theatres this weekend although I expect that some theatres will be running Coach Carter in some of them after tonight.
