 White Noise Prediction Thread
after seeing a few commercials and the trailer for White Noise, i think this will be a pretty good and scary movie. I think this can be a decent hit.
$23/$66

It is bound to be trashed by critics. Might do well opening weekend, but will likely fall hard the next weekend.
Opening: $17.0 million
Second Weekend: $6.29 million (-63%)
Total: $44.0 million
Multiplier: 2.58

yeah, it's where he communicates with his dead wife through evp and ends up bringing something evil into our dimension. looks pretty good from the previews i've seen.

Personally, I'd have to disagree. Looks like another run-of-the-mill horror film.

i think it should pull in 20+ million it's first weekend due to the fact that really nothing else good will be playing in early january. but yes, i'm sure critics will hate it but it looks good to me.

I'd probably compare it closest to The Butterfly Effect of this past year. During the weekend of January 9-11th, though, Return of the King was first with $14 million, and Big Fish second with $13 million.
In years past, the highest grossing movie has been a holdover with $14-$17. Even new films, such as in 2000, Next Friday, grossed only $14 million. The only anomaly was Save the Last Dance in 2001 with $23 million, but I doubt White Noise will have that sort of appeal.
With Finding Neverland, Lemony Snicket, The Aviator, Phantom of the Opera and several other holdovers, I seriously doubt that White Noise will make $20 million opening weekend.

Yeah, I guess The Butterfly Effect is the best comparison. I have to admit, though, the trailer is impressive.
Opening weekend - $13.5 million
Total gross - $43 million

It just struck me as boring, personally. It attempts to be scary, but it probably won't be (similar to The Grudge).

Well, I found it somewhat creepy and that rarely ever happens to me during a trailer (only other occasions were The Others and The Ring 2)

yeah, i've talked to a few people who loved the trailer and a few that weren't impressed. i think i'll edit my prediction a bit but i think it will still do well and be a decent january hit.
Opening -- $19 million
Total -- $57 million

This should be a decent hit. The trailer looks very good, and competition in January is rather week. Should do The Forgotten numbers, almost.

I think numbers somewhere in between Darkness Falls and The Butterfly Effect, two previous January thrillers, will be sufficient here.
$15M opening, about $45M total.

It could do well considering what else will be out at that time, however usually after the holidays peple are just burnt out on movies and want a month off until Feb when they start up again...
so about 13.5 opening...

I saw this a while ago, and it's so bad.
Seriously, man, terrible.
Reviews will be horrendous, but that doesn't matter much for this type of movie. 13/39

The trailer was scary, that should get people in the cinema.
$12,000,000
$30,000,000
Maybe a breakout though....
