Not great for Alexander, very impressive for Kranks!

Just out of pure curiosity. Considering that you like high-pedigree movies like Shawshank Redemption etc., why on earth are you happy that a movie with 4% at RT is doing well?

HAHA look at Spongebob, looked quite promising for it yesterday. Great for The Kranks and NT, also good for Incredibles and Polar - im still confident on a $20 mill weekend

I assume that you are talking to me ( Clint Eastwood or Taxi Driver impression ) Actually, I enjoy all types of movies.
The 4 % means nothing to me - critics give there impression which is not aimed at the general population. Like on the show, Ebert & Roeper, Roeper that stick in the mud, is reviewing a kids movie or a teen movie or something else and he says all high brow, I HATED THIS MOVIE.
That is fine but I think critics should in addition to giving their review should couch it by saying that this movie would appeal to this X crowd.
On this movie, I probably will see it as I always though Tim Allen was a likable actor, from SNL days I always liked Dan Ackroyd ( brings back fond memories ) and in general I like Xmas movies. I would have added Jamie Lee but she is getting alittle old from the Trading Places and Trus Lies time period.
Even the few reviews that I saw on IMDB, some said good things about it, and movies are subjective and an acquired taste. Now I am not saying that the movie as a whole will be good but I am hoping that it will be worth seeing for the selective parts that I enjoy.

Wow, Kranks did REALLY well, after a modest opening day. I am still shocked at how well National Treasure is doing.

Wonder how much Jerry B name associated with it has to do with that. He has fans and name rec form his older movies & his tv type hits like those CSI shows.

True, however King Arthur didn't do all that well domestically. Nicholas Cage had something to do with it, too. That, and it seemed to get good reviews.

The Polar Express should get around $18 million over the weekend. Still a very decent number.
National Treasure has a good chance to make $30+ million over the weekend if the number holds up.
Christmas with the Kranks reminds me of The Haunted Mansion. If the $6.1 million number is true, then it'll do about $24-25 million over the 3-day weekend.

First of all because it has a PG-rating (not even PG-13) and looks to be very family-friendly. Furthermore, the marketing has been really big and the movie reminds of Indiana Jones flicks, even many reviewers pointed it out. I expected it to do well, but not THAT well.

I think reviews and trailers do matter to give you a general idea of what they are saying - what the movie is about - what they liked or didn't like about the movie - and then you go from there and decide / weigh if their likes and dislikes are valid for you.

But 4% is REALLY bad. 15-20% is still debatable, but 4% is....well, horrible.

I know, it seems bizarre, but perhaps the big increase on Tuesday was actually the wrong number?
Who knows, I guess we'll find out this weekend

As for marketing, was NT really marketed that much!?!?!? I was sure it was one of those movies to fade out around the 60 to 70 million mark .... oh wells .... might check it out one day ...

You loved Master of Disguise? How?
I saw that movie on HBO a while back and was amazed at how every single joke was not funny. I think that watching a void would have been more entertaining. The one thing that i will never inderstand is how the entire movie was purely awful, but then all of the sudden there was that Jaws parody that was hilarious. It was as if someone went through the movie and removed all of the good jokes and then tweaked with the rest of them to make sure that none of the others were funny but they missed one.
Anyway, typically a movie that gets bad reviews may not be truly awful, but a 00%-09% movie is just bad.

Spongebob makes my head hurt .... it just doesnt seem right, as it was one of our busiest movies yesterday
Anywho Alexander is doing what I expected, but hats off to Kranks, looks like all my preaching that it wont make 20 million this weekend might turn out to be wrong, good game Kranks, good game... (however this is just Thurs )
And grats to NT, a good fun movie very deserving of the money its making

I expected absolutely nothing from the movie and I'm a sucker for sheer stupidity. I can clearly see why people would hate it. Everything about the movie was stupid .. it knew it .. no pretense ... it worked on me. Something as stupid as the jessica simpson cameo worked on me.

National Treasure is unstoppable. This movie is dominating the box office. Kranks had a great increase from yesterday. Looks to be a good weekend. Alexander, on the other hand, had an alright increase.

As i have said since it opened,Spongebob is frontloaded and will barely pass 100mill if at all.
NT is doing absolutly great,IMO one of the huge suprises of the year,If it keeps going and doing great numbers i can see it doing 140mill+.
