Did Lucas Make His 150 Prediction...
Becuase he knew Kong would do much less, therefore making it look even more disappointing in comparison to his prediction??? I smell a conspiracy!

He made that prediction to prove the all but proven statement
"Lucas knows shit about box-office"

I keep wishing it was because he wanted to give BKB a heart attack and put us out of our misery.

I don't know, but Lucas is not a reputable number-cruncher (remember $200 million total for ROTS), and anyone who took his prediction (if anyone) are insane.

The answer is "No".. He was merely supporting his friend, his colleague, and giving it a round the house projected number based on it being the "Hit" factor with Lucas when he saw it and he went by his gut impression.. Right now, he's

A $150 million opening weekend prediction was ridiculous from the beginning, so it's either that or he's really stupid.
PEACE, Mike.

Who cares what George Lucas thinks of BO? It´s not like he´s got a website called "Boxofficejedi" or anything...

His jedis do own the box office though.

My guess is he was thinking a $150m 5-day, which is still ridiculous but may not have been completely impossible. Obviously he doesn't know much about box office, in any case.

I still think he was purposely over-hyping it. Even if he can't predict the BO, what kind of average movie-goer would not listen to Lucas when it comes to the Box Office, a trade he has mastered.

That is what I was referring to, a $150 million 5-day weekend prediction. It's stupid whichever way you slice it. Return of the King didn't come near $150 million 5-day, so another 3 hour film with a lesser title isn't going to come near it.
PEACE, Mike.

George Lucas has a lot of respect and admiration for Peter Jackson, and he wouldn't purposefully set out to try to make King Kong be perceived as a failure. I'm sure this was a simple lack of knowledge about box office, and really doubt he had any sort of malicious intent here.
