King Kong is on track for an 85-97 million 3-day weekend
On Wedenesday, Kong grossed 9.7 million according to BOM while Narnia got 3.5 million. That means that Narnia grossed and will gross roughly 36% of what King Kong did. If we're going with the assumption that Narnia will take in 30-35 million for the weekend then that will translate to 85-97 million for King Kong.
Now if we're going with it dropping by 22% this Thursday like Shrek 2 then that would still translate to a 65-75 million weekend.

In theory, that seems like a reasonable explanation, but unfortunately it just doesn't work that way, since King Kong is a new opener, and many people are not convinced that it will increase nearly that much on Friday.
But of course, I hope you're right!!
PEACE, Mike.

Menaces like you and BKB just keep underestimating this movie's potential.

Welcome, mutilator. Your ideas might get torn to shreds but you should stick around anyway and continue to post on other movies.

Indeed mutilator, perhaps you could eviscerate BKB's cobbled-together posts while you're at it sir

Well, it was a worthy stab at an analysis at least. Welcome to KJ.

King Kong made 48.18 times as much as Yours, Mine and Ours on Wednesday. Assuming YMO is on track for about a $3m weekend, Kong should do $144.5m.

A comparison to a kids movie seems a little unrealistic. However, with an 86.4:1 ratio from Wednesday against Brokeback Mountain's possible $2.7m weekend (afterall, its a fellow Oscar hopeful and a movie almost as gay as Kong), Jackson's pic could squirm its way to a $233.3m 3-day haul.

Hehe, a nice way to hide the fact about Brokeback's expansion in theaters.

It's only expanding by 64 theatres and as that's quite insignificant against the 3500 or so Kong's debuting in (2% in fact), so there should be little effect.

Or, because Family Stone will increase from nothing to something, Kong's gross could be INFINITE!!!!!!
Stupid pessimists calling Kong a bomb when it could earn infinity tomorrow.

That's just stupid. There isn't enough cash in America for Kong to make infinity, in fact the best it could do is more likely around $11 trillion and even that would require a Holiday boost and 200 extra screens.

I remember people having the same sort of pessimistic attitude of towards Shrek 2. Come on guys, it's just a Wednesday in December with people busy with finals and holiday shopping. Let's please wait until Friday before declaring that Kong can't earn more then $11 trillion.

First of all, welcome to KJ.. Hope you enjoy your stay.. Second, this movie is FINISHED.. There is no other kind way for me to put it but honest and bluntly.. A 9.7 Million Opening and a Friday which won't be any better is the nail in the coffin for this beast.. It's a "C+" movie at best and not near as gushing and great as the blind critics and fanboys will tell you this is who saw it for free, so naturally they have nothing to lose by giving it a great review and glossing over the films serious weakpoints that caused it to open to such a poor and putrid number..... Either way, enjoy your stay..

No we don't.. I simply call it like I see it and I'm calling this is a GODZILLA Disappointment of Epic 3 hour and 8 Minute Proportions at 9.7 Million for an opening.. Even FOX News this morning wer trying to find the words to describe such a crappy opening..

Now it's on track for about 45-50.
