Well I got the shock of my life today. I went to buy tickets for Narnia(even though the church is going but i gotta work) and they are sold out all next weekend. Thats right 4 screens sold out everytime already with the exception of 11pm and 11:30pm. So I wont be seeing til I see Kong and this together. Just wanted to give the scoop

Have just decided this one is going to surprise the HELL out of everyone.
I just got back from a Mercy Me/Steven Curtis Chapman concert... and WOW.
There were videos that were played up on the screens before the concert started, and the video shown just before the countdown to the concert started was none other than a specially-introduced trailer for "Chronicles of Narnia".
I'm guessing Walden Media--one of the companies making Narnia--must be a sponsor or something of this tour, 'cause they were advertised in the program, too.
Anyway, the president of the company introduced the trailer for Narnia... and everyone went so *quiet*! Then after it was done, there was quite a bit of buzz and a small amount of cheering.
Then, later in the concert, Steven Curtis Chapman sung his song that is on the "Inspired By" album for Narnia, and that included playing the music video for the song up on the screens. He said he begged WM to let him play the video for the tour, and they graciously allowed him to.
That set got quite a bit of great response.
So.... yeah. I'm thinkin' this movie is gonna be a LOT bigger than anyone has been anticipating. I mean, yeah, I've been interested in seeing it, but never thought it'd be a HUGE hit.... Now I'm rethinking my stance, especially after hearing how many tickets have already been sold due to church groups buying out entire showtimes.
This might turn out to be the next "Passion of the Christ"!
I know I'm going to go see it next Friday, opening day. I'm just still trying to convince my dad to go to a later showing in the day, as I *want* to be in a sold-out audience. Not just because audience reaction is one of the best things about a movie experience, but also so I can gauge the reactions of the audience to the Pirates of the Caribbean teaser trailer.
******
Oh, yeah.... There's a Thurs, Dec. 8 6:45pm showing of Narnia at the AMC Olathe that's sold out; I'm assuming it's a church group or a company outing.

Hmmm, this is starting to look a lot like TPOTC in terms of pre ticket sales and church buying tickets, and its impressive cinsidering that this has gotten knowhere near the hype in the media that TPOTC got.Im starting to believe a passion type opening is very possible, and considering this is pg rated maybe even a bigger OW.If its released in 3,800+ theatres then i will up my OW prediction from 48mill to 80mill.

Yeah, I did...saw it a couple weeks ago and I loved loved LOVED it! I was a big fan of the books when I was a kid and when the four kids go out the back of the wardrobe and end up in Narnia, there were almost tears in my eyes because it was really close to how I envisioned it. Andrew Adamson did a great job with it...and while the CGI isn't nearly as impressive as Kong, I think it's a better movie in terms of storytelling, acting, writing...

Haha, I felt so similar. The first time Lucy enters Narnia I had a huge smile on my face.

Narnia hasn't sold out a single midnight show in the area yet, and it's about 15 minutes away. I really don't think it's going to be as frontloaded as some people are expecting.

We had one midnight show scheduled up till today at my theater. It sold out at around 4:00 so we added a second one. That got about 2/3 full, so we got about 500 people for here, nothing like Potter, but I didn't expect it to be frontloaded like that. I think most of the business is going to be on Saturday and Sunday

Due to the current weather conditions (nearly a foot of snow; many residential streets *still* not plowed [including my uphill dead end street]; temperatures reaching below zero at night and up in the teens for a high), the midnight showing at AMC Independence Commons 20 did not sell out. However, I was told that it was probably over 80% full.
