Guru doesn't make its own numbers though, so it's not like it supports anything. Guru, like a variety of other websites, simply steal their numbers from either SBD or BOM (or Neilson EDI).

PEACE, Mike.

Guru has his own source (Guru was the first one who posted High Tension opening day number)

Guru might find numbers from early leaks from certain people sometimes, however I assure you, they do not have their own source and do not make their own numbers.

PEACE, Mike.

I think Mary is right about this one Mike. Trust me, she knows a lot of insider information and has proven me wrong about basic things I was sure about, and I think that this is another one of them. The only person I can remember saying BOG steals numbers is Sean, and we all know how well we could trust that guy.

If BOG actually made its own numbers like BOM and SBD do, then they would be continually referred to for new box office numbers each weekend. We compare BOM and SBD, but Guru never comes into the picture because they quite simply don't make their own numbers. If they did, they would have their own set of numbers just like BOM and SBD always do. Guru is a nice little website, but it is far from being it's own box office tracking firm. Notice Guru's numbers are an exact replica of SBD's numbers.

PEACE, Mike.

I think there's just a misunderstanding here. BOG doesn't make his numbers, but indeed has a source which might be the same one that 'gives' it to also to SBD, but then again there have been some differences in the past.

Btw, MovieDude, I think Sean (or was that Brandon?) actually talked about Lee's Movies Info. Never saw either of them badmouths BOG. But with Sean speaking about it...hmmm. Could've happen. ;)

Lighter than normal Thanksgiving for kids movies.

Updated 3-Day projections:
1. Harry Potter 4 - $50.6 million (-50.7%)
2. Walk the Line - $19.4 million (-13.2%)
3. Yours, Mine, and Ours - $14.1 million (NEW)
4. Rent - $11.8 million (NEW)
5. Just Friends - $10.5 million (NEW)
6. Chicken Little - $9.4 million (-38.3%)
7. Pride and Prejudice - $6.1 million (+186.9%)
8. In the Mix - $4.5 million (NEW)
9. Derailed - $4 million (-39.2%)
10. The Ice Harvest - $3.9 million (NEW)

Chicken Little seems suspicous...

If it happens like that, it's lookin' good for the openers in the derby for me. I predicted...:

Yours, Mine and Ours - $14.4 million
Rent - $13.4 million
In the Mix - $4.5 million
The Ice Harvest - $3.9 million

I don't know, though. I think either SBD is off for Thursday's numbers or Friday will have large increases. It doesn't seem right.

Lucky...

I think only kid films will increase more than usual tomorrow. Adult films increased more than usual on Thanksgiving. The Ice Harvest increased 52%. So lighter adult film increases for Friday could be in store. Saturday and Sunday are pretty easy to predict on Thanksgiving, thankfully.

Chicken Little will increase minimally 200%. I would bet my XBox360 on that. If I had one.

All the numbers look fine except for Rent's. In the Mix and Ice Harvest increased pretty much what I expected.

That and Chicken Little. I mean seriously, CGI animated flicks don't crop on that Thursday. Spongebob dropped, but it had an insane increase on Wednesday. CL didn't.

Again, I think its greatly weather related. This partially explains why Walk The Line bucked the trend of weak increases or heavy decreases, it's core audience would have been least effected by the weather on Thursday, which affected the Northeast.

And as for Rent, it would have had the audience that was most affected by the weather (Northeast, ex. Broadway fanbase). So the huge drop could be both weather related and due to the fanbase rushing out.

But I think we'll be seeing significantly higher increases for Friday than normal.

Rent's drop is very understandable because all the gays went out to see it opening day. We had no gays at our theater today.

Oh wow, BOM numbers are actually up.

What took them so long? For such minimal change, lol

At least Potter's numbers were higher on BOM which is a good thing. I agree with you BJ I think it will get a huge increase on Friday.

Decent numbers for all the openers once again, Rent excluded. It deservedly dropped as it was one putrid film. I'm not gay so perhaps that's why I didn't like it? There wasn't much of a plot to speak of and the music was annoying, except for a few songs that were marginally decent.

I bet we'll go through the same thing tommorrow when SBD comes out with disappointing (yet accurate) numbers. :shades:

they were not acurate :nonono: atlease not more acurate than BOM  The craptacular SBD will never in a million years be better than BOM at estimating films

May 22, 2005 was the last time I believed a Showbiz number

yup. only gays in the closet make it a point to say "i'm not gay"

now back to the topic at hand. Rent will do ok. no worries. it's not really a thanksgiving day type of movie. it should pick up today i bet

Well, people were right in that they once again underestimated Goblet of Fire; by $500,000 infact, which is nearly as much as the $650,000 they underestimated on wednesdays number as well.

And I can see why people questioned some of the other numbers (even if the were correct), since both Rent's and Chicken Little's drops were really out there. They were certainly not usual at all for Thanksgiving behaviour, especially Chicken Little's decrease.

But yeah, you're right, perhaps people should calm down and not make such quick judgements. But as some other people said one day, what's the fun in that? Hehe.

PEACE, Mike.
