Two for the Money increased from estimates by a lot, while The Gospel dropped a lot.

Pretty poor numbers. And to think we thought it was shocking the weekend KOV and crew came out and nothing reached 20 million (though if I remember two broke 18-19). I guess that's less than 50% drop for Violence, but still, I'm not all that impressed with how any of the movies performed.

Well, that was shocking because it was supposed to be the summer kickoff and Kingdom of Heaven couldn't even muster enough to much more than something like Sahara.
I don't think these numbers are anything to be terribly concerned about, considering it's October.

I thought October was supposed to be better (b.o. and quality wise) than August. Its pretty dead the last two weekends no?
Magnus, is 2004, 2003, Octobers tracking better so far?

Waiting actually improved from estimates. It's already in the black seeing as how the budget is only 1 million.

I thought Serenity's sunday drop was estimated to be a bit hard. Decent number I guess.

Hmm.. Gospel dropped half a million. Guess it wasn't quite as big on Sunday as expected. Many of the audience goes to an evening church service, so that could explain it.

It's going to probably be these kinds of numbers all month. I don't see anything breaking the 20 million opening mark this month, does anybody else?
*loaded question, of course*

The Fog, Doom, Saw II, and The Legend of Zorro.
If only one movie, though? Doom.

DOOM will be/should be the only to do it this month.

All three definitely have a chance to pass 20 million OW.

Saw II?
Meh.
If it does, it will have horrifically horrible legs, possibly not even making more than $40M.

Oooh...I forgot The Legend of Zorro opened this month. (probably because I have no interest, other than the stunning CZJ.) I tell ya, if Michael Douglas were only a mailman, the woman wouldn't be bearing his fruit.
Zorro will do it, but not Doom, and The Ring 2 should have taught some of you a lesson about predicting too high for Saw 2, right?

Ring 2 opened to $36 million, despite utterly terrible reviews and a legion of disappointed fans.

Yeah, and unlike Saw, the first one was a bit of a phenom, so I'd say you could probably cut that number in half at least. Reviews do not matter for horror flicks, and never have, and the legion of disappointing fans killed it''s legs, not it's opening.

The reviews had more of an effect than you'd think. I had a whole group of friends who decided not to go when they read it wasn't scary at all, and that it focused on the little boy more than Samara. They didn't kill the film's weekend, but it wouldn't surprise me if they (plus the horror glut at the begining of the year) held the film under $40 million.
