Great for Flightplan, but Corpse Bride didn't increase and that's really bad for my weekend prediction, argh! Can't see it making more than $6.5 million over the weekend now.
A History of Violence is following exactly the pattern I predicted, though. Watch out for a weekend drop of under 30%.

Incredible for Serenity. It will still have a sizeable drop this weekend, and the multiplier won't se so great since it will soon lose theaters (25m is optimistic) but this is excellent for a film with such a rabid fanbase. It will probably see far more on DVD then it earned at the BO. If it sells over 50m on DVD there might be a sequel. I bet the film has the highest ratio of DVD sales to ticket sales ever for a wide release.

Y'know it really might. Not only for the rabid fanbase, but also the amazing reviews and word of mouth which have probably convinced millions to rent/buy the DVD even if they're still too hesitant to see it in theaters.

No daily numbers for The Squid and the Whale, which was released in 4 theaters on Wednesday. However, it had a Wednesday-Thursday gross of $24,630 for a 2 day PTA of $6158. Not bad, but nothing exceptional.

What's so great about its daily numbers? Its daily holds for the week are barely better than Serenity's.

It opened to $2 milion less than Serenity, it will most likely rise more than Srenity on Friday and have a slightly better weekend multiplier. Which should bring it to a weekend of around $5.8-6 million (and a drop of 26-28%). Isn't that great?

Why would you think that?

Your kidding, right?? Wouldn't you think if this film REALLY did have the rabid fanbase you speak of, that SERENITY would've opened much much higher than the paltry piss poor number it did??

Well, I compared Serenity's rise to Sky Captain and AHOV's to Mystic River. Sky Captain rose 170% on its 2nd Friday, Mystic River rose over 180% on its second wide Friday.

The fact that it's a rabid fanbase says nothing about size.
