Ugh...

I don't think there's anything positive I can find about that movie, so I'll just list the stats about it....

Release Date: November 23, 2005
Studio: Lions Gate Films
Director: Ron Underwood (The Adventures of Pluto Nash)
Cast: Usher, Chazz Palminteri, Emmanuelle Chriqui
Rating: PG-13
Premise: When New York's hottest nightclub deejay Darrell (Usher) saves a mob boss's life (Chazz Palminteri), he is rewarded for his bravery with the job of watching over the don's beautiful daughter Dolly (Emmanuelle Chriqui). The sparks soon begin to fly between this attractive couple from very different worlds, against her formidable father's wishes. The don, however, has other things on his mind—quashing a potential war with an arch-rival and controlling a young, ruthless challenger to his throne. In the end, all's fair in love and gangster warfare in this hip romantic comedy, "In the Mix".

This flick looks simply AWFUL and that is how I suppose its boc-office will be as well. Maybe not as bad as Undiscovered's, but should venture into Glitter's league or something around that.

Funnily enough, there are similarities between the two. Both are distributed by Lions Gate Films (which means it won't get many theatres anyway). Moreover, the director of In The Mix most recently directed the classic The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Yeah... And after the movie On the Line it seems as if Emmanuelle Chriqui has a liking for starring as love interests of singers turned into wannabe-actors.... The release over the Thanksgiving Weekend this year will make sure that it has tons of competition as well and will simply get lost in the snuffle.

Anyway, here are my predictions:

Opening weekend (5-day) - $2.1 million

Total gross - $4.1 million

Well, keep in mind, it's a Lions Gate release which means that it's unlikely to get over 1,500 theatres. See Undiscovered. Also, why would it gross more than Glitter, On the Line, From Justin to Kelly or Bones?

Isn't this also being released by Fox? Anyways, the trailer actually got a big reaction when I saw Roll Bounce. Usher really is a lot bigger of a draw then I can tell some people are assuming, and this has a much more appealing plot then Undiscovered, looking more like an action romantic comedy that could definately get both genders. While Ashlee Simpson was booed off the stage and Mariah Carey was considered insane when Glitter was released, Usher's latest album Confessions was certified 9x platinum back in May. There are countless more ways I could illustrate just how insanely popular Usher is, but that would take some time, so I'd suggest looking through the last two years of this timeline: http://www.rockonthenet.com/artists-u/usher_main.htm . I could actually potentially see this outgrossing Get Rich or Die Tryin'. 8 Mile is a much better comparison then anything, although I think that it won't come close to that film's total, but simply for how huge the musicians who star in them are. 23/65

Glad to see he's trying something new, wouldn't want him to get type-cast

I guess Usher's big with the "urban" and "teen" (and "deaf"?) crowds, and anyone who makes a conscious decision to listen to him when such things as Pink Floyd or "silence" exist as alternatives obviously lacks judgemental skills and will see it. I say it'll make $5m opening weekend, then drop like the rock he uses as a lyricist.

I hate to be so vulgar.

But if I could get as much "play" as Usher would, I certainly would sing and star in as many movies like this as possible.

Haha, amen. Let's face it, the guy can make a movie that's as much of a vanity project and come out on top easy. It's not like saying the man has a lot of sex appeal is going to turn off tons of audiences either.

The poster really should be Usher naked and sweating with text that says "Oh girl, I'm going to love you all night long".

I do not think that quite works as a draw. How on earth can it open to $23 million in a month crowded like November? Why should it open that much bigger than the Britney Spears flick?

Just cause a music artist like Usher stars in shitty looking movie doesnt mean it'll do that much better because he's in it, people always seem to think that and it always ends up being wrong. 8 Mile is an awful comparison MovieDude, it doesnt look anywhere near as good as 8 Mile looked, it wont get 1/100 of the hype 8 Mile had, and it'll probably be a dumped movie with barely any marketing.

I'll say it again, theres a diffrence between music and movies, just because a person is big in one doesnt mean they'll be big in the other.

I agree that it won't be anywhere near 8 Mile, but it's no worse a comparison then Glitter or Undiscovered, which were both dumped, had some of the worst reviews of all time, and featured musicians who were completely washed up and consistently mocked. It's true that not all his fans will show up opening weekend. If all 9.-something million people who paid $13 for his album saw the movie it'd make well over 70 million, and that's assuming that no big fans of his who downloaded the album from the internet went at all. In retrospect I'm going to edit my predictions to 18/51, but you guys have to face the facts: This has none of the downfalls any of the bombs featuring musicians have.

A throwdown right more: I will bet my signature's entire contents for a month that if released in over 1,500 theaters In the Mix will make over 6 million dollars opening weekend, and if it's opened in over 2,000 theaters it'll make more then 8 million opening weekend. Any takers?

The sad part is, people here actually think half of the audience for 8 Mile saw it because it "looked good."

As for this movie, I can't even watch the damn trailer. MTV's site is awful.

8 Mile's trailer was effective, it had a huge single attached to it which sold both the movie and the soundtrack, and Eminem was at his peak. No movie gets to over 100m just because some guy is in it, there wasnt one person who didnt know about 8 Mile thanks to that huge single " Lose Yourself "

You really think Zing if the movie looked like crap the movie wouldve made 50m+ opening weekend? Give me a break

why? because he's Usher. I think he's a little more 'popular' then the others. at least the past year or two.
i'm not a fan.........except for that one song. yeah.

8 Miles also had the benefit of being directed by Curtis Hanson and received good reviews. Those factors attracted the older crowds.

Why else would someone go, I would never have gone to see the film if I didnt think it looked good.

8 Mile surpised us. I'm not saying this will have a 50 million opening but this could do well. (I predicted 20/50 for 8 mile)
i hope it dosn't do well.
5/12

2 Fast 2 Furious looked like crap.

It still made $50m+ in its opening weekend.
