This has not been a good year for Sony's light action fare (xXx: State of the Union, Stealth and this).

Its actually an MGM film, that Sony acquired after its acquistion. So they were contractually obliged to release it. Just like Miramax had to when Disney bought the group. Also Fox has international rights so it also goes under their finger a bit as well.

Big bomb. Its opening weekend marks one of the lowest for an action adventure for a very long time; and its IMDB rating is just 0.1 ahead of Elektra; which the media made a lot more noise about.

With a production budget of $50m and a marketing budget to add to the mix. It's definately not a profitable side effect of MGM.

Must everything you post about bombs come back to Elektra? It sucked, and it bombed... let it go.

As for the IMDB rating, it'll increase and stabilize. It's only the first weekend. And, the last time you said that:

its at a massively encouraging 3.7/10 on IMDB, or 1.2 points less than "Elektra", 1.5 better than "Gigli" and 0.3 better than Catwoman....

Current IMDB Score: 5.8/10 (or .8 better than Elektra)

Heh.

We're loking at a total gross of around $16-17 million for Into the Blue. Guess that proves that Alba is by far not a draw yet (and I doubt she'll ever become one).

I've gotta ask...

WTF is up with this movie? Dropping -32.0% in its second weekend?! I'm guessing it's a real crowd-pleaser, like Sahara.

Hmmm, really weird. A crowd-pleaser, but one that opens with such a low PTA?

The small drop won't help, it'll start shedding theatres like crazy soon. Maybe losing 1,000 next weekend. It should end with around $18-19 million.

WOM, kind Doctor, WOM...

Anyone who wasn't brainwashed by all the naysayers and actually saw this fine movie, will have gone home and shared their joy with their friends and family - expect to see some legs on this baby for that reason...

No, you see, it is just very very unusual for the movie to bomb in its opening and then hold up well.

No worries, this one will lose 1,000 theatres either the upcoming weekend or the one after that. Still won't reach $20 million, I suppose.
